Hi Jim.Has your unit been repaired at Northern autotech yet?
Does it include fitting?Hi Jim.
Called in today at 11am. Carl plugged in his computer to pull up the faults.
2 faults shown and one of them was internal fault. He was straight up and said it wasn’t repairable.
He stocked new units so agreed to have new one fitted.
New unit and proxy coding including labour was £385.
Really nice chap to deal with.
Total time around 40 minutes.
He said the new units are UK manufactured and shouldn’t suffer from the faults the old units caused.
Yes, fitting includedDoes it include fitting?
When mine went I sent it off to Crashdata in Liverpool for repair. Quick turn around and fitted it back in. Didn't need to clear warning.Assuming this is a fiat then it’s easy to replace but any new unit needs to be “ proxi aligned “ to the main ecu.
You can do this if you have the appropriate software ( multiecuscan) as an example.
Or you pay for the set up.
There is a simple procedure to clear the codes but without the proxi nothing will change.
That's better than Fiat which charge over £500. However, they do warranty it for 2 (I think) years.Hi Jim.

Heard many reports of crash data ones failing again though. When mine went I sent it off to Crashdata in Liverpool for repair. Quick turn around and fitted it back in. Didn't need to clear warning.
He does give a one year warranty. Not sue how it would work as he’s close to 300miles from where I live. Could possibly be return unit and get a new one and then take it somewhere for proxy coding. That's better than Fiat which charge over £500. However, they do warranty it for 2 (I think) years.
It happened in Covid in 2020 so no option as Fiat garages could not get new ones. Still working (touch wood). When mine went I sent it off to Crashdata in Liverpool for repair. Quick turn around and fitted it back in. Didn't need to clear warning.
Is it a garage or just his house where he fixes the airbag ecu?He does give a one year warranty. Not sue how it would work as he’s close to 300miles from where I live. Could possibly be return unit and get a new one and then take it somewhere for proxy coding.
At his house. Is it a garage or just his house where he fixes the airbag ecu?
He should be able to code the new one from the old one so could be done by post.He does give a one year warranty. Not sue how it would work as he’s close to 300miles from where I live. Could possibly be return unit and get a new one and then take it somewhere for proxy coding.
Good point Lenny. He should be able to code the new one from the old one so could be done by post.
