Hi All
I am after some advice please . Has anyone had rear air suspension fitted to a tag axle ? If so , does it make much difference . What are the advantages. We are looking to buy a particular tag MH but it has air suspension on the rear . I am wondering if the air suspension reduces the payload . I have not had a tag before but I am told they are more stable than a single rear axle , that being the case I am trying to understand why the previous owner spec it with air suspension?
Any advice greatly appreciated .
Thank you

I’ve had Goldsmitt air suspension for 20 years+just had it replaced as they were going crackly like a worn tyre ,wouldn’t be without them handle like s Mini Cooper o the bends, have there extra anti roll bar it makes it amazing, you could also have goldsmitt front HD springs simply wonderfull. Then update to 5000kilo.

I’ve got rear air on a Carthago tag axle. Fitted because of a fairly long overhand that could ground otherwise. Easy to adjust the height according to load. Rides great. Able to up-plate from 5000 to 5500kg

Agree 100% with Winchester our tag carthago had air on the rear when we bought it cannot believe the difference on our tag axle burstner Elegance.

Thank you Bleau’s
So are you saying you think the air suspension is a good improvement or just a necessity for the long overhang ? I am assuming you Bustner doesn’t have air but Carthago did ?

After a year without, we decided to have full air air and levellers fitted to our Dethleffs tag by SAP in Doncaster, and so glad we did.

Definitely helps smooth out the ride
Less wobble when overtaking / being overtaken by larger vehicle
Able to raise rear when entering/leaving ferry
Able to engage off road selection when on unstable ground for better ground clearance
Allowed us to uprate to 5700kg

Also recommend the levellers which make setting up on site a breeze

Yes the air on our tag carthago gives a better ride less rock when windy or passing lorries and quietens the squeaks you get out as well as being able to lift the rear on ferries and slopes and having done 9000 miles in Europe this year it was well appreciated would not have wanted to do it in our old burstner without air on some of the roads we traveled on

I’m thinking of having it on our Rapido Tag Steve, not to improve the ride, and i’m not saying it won’t. But to uprate it to 5500kgs

Not on a tag but im even thinking of adding it to my pilote, ride comfort and height adjustment and to aid the alko system from taking all the strain.
And Im tight so it must be worth it!!
