So I have sold a 2020 Knaus panel van. Lovely van and a lovely couple. They live miles away and put a holding deposit on it subject to a test drive. They turned up drove it and loved it. 2 months later they have sent a 2 page email saying the van is not fit for purpose so they want a full refund. The reason being…. The captains chairs are not comfortable on long journeys.
Am I being unreasonable saying I reject the rejection? Just want some opinions!!!

As a dealer, you have a reputation at stake and will need to take the rough with the smooth in trades.
I'd negotiate with them, to find out what they are hoping for and look for a middle position.
Only you can decide the value of your reputation and that should be considered within any settlement.
Most deals you should gain on, but occasionally you may need to accept a 'book loss' to protect the longer term.

Some people have quite a brass neck. Because the seats are uncomfortable for them doesn't mean they are for everyone. Doesn't mean it's not fit for purpose. You could offer to buy it back at the rate that you would if they were just wanting to sell it which for a dealer would include some hefty profit for moving it on again.

Also really fat people must find seats less comfortable than people that don't squish and squash the seat, so would that be fit for purpose issue, or a no will power to keep your snout out of the trough issue?

Glad I don't sell motorhomes :xThumb:

I find the Volvo XC90 seats even worse than the Fiat. That split front seat just doesn’t come in the right place.
My old Volvo v70 was lovely and our current Lexus 450rxh just about right.

Mk1 or mk2 xc90

Mine was MK1 like the v70 seats tbh.

So chap has come round and we are now getting a quote to change the foam on the seats for him!
Thank you all for your advice!
I hope they are paying and not you!

Different foam, something like a sculpted memory foam.
Memory F, will not work! Not telling your upholstery person their job but pointing it out in case anyone on here follows what you are saying and buys MF.😉
Did they say Reflex foam? 👍

Look at my edit
There is no strength in memory foam,it simply is to soft. 9 X out of 10 MF will be a topper used on top of other foam's
Upholstery maker's will use either soft, medium or hard foam or Reflex foam which is a little harder than medium but nowhere near as hard as hard😁 it also has better return properties

If all a new owner has to complain about are the seats good luck to them, our last three brand new motorhomes have had quite a bit wrong with them. Luckily he has bought from a dealer who care not like some I have had to deal with. A friend of mine who has had boats for years saw where we went and what we did with ours. Thought that looks good bought a brand new one tried it for a couple of months, decided it wasn’t for the took it back to the dealer. Told him sell it for me I prefer boats and took the loss on the chin. Said its not the dealers fault its not for us.

I will put them to them
What I should have said is that seat thickness/thinness along with foam is no garuntee of comfort and comfort is subjective. But I hope whatever the outcome is your customer is happy 👍

How many miles have they done and can you sell it for more .but could they have done some silly such as petrol rather than diesel. Ran the water heater dry and left it on

Or I believe Movan was looking for a getaway vehicle after a bank job oops that was secret :eek:

Many funsters love the sheepskin throws so maybe this is another option for them rather than altering the seats?
