Adblue - what a major pain in the backside this stuff is. We took delivery of a brand new moho last November and it's the first vehicle I've had which is equipped with an adblue system.

So far we're only getting @ 1500 miles between the adblue light coming on. Our Fiat Ducato base has no gauge, just a light. The price of adblue seems to have doubled in recent days, I've just paid £20 for 10 litres, I can't find any of those £1 a litre deals.
A local garage has adblue pumps, £1.79 a litre, but the diesel there is not cheap, so do I drive from one fuel station to another? :)

Another absolute PITA is the addition of an adblue tank to the vehicle has reduced diesel capacity to 60 litres, meaning a fuel range of under 250 miles, a pita on long journeys.

Talking to friends who have cars with adblue, they're saying the never have to top it up. One handbook I've seen says the adblue is topped up at the annual service. Why am I having to top up on journeys?

What's your experience folks, how many miles are you doing between adblue top ups?

Mike

I agree, we would never want to delete adblue, just increase the mileage between refills, as Ford and Mercedes seem to get a couple thousand more than Fiat from a tank, unless they got a larger capacity say 30 litres, then that would explain it.
I wonder if Peugeot and Citroen are the same consumption as Fiat, as they are generally in same group 🤷‍♂️ After working mine out, light came on at half a tank top up took (approx) 8 litres to max the guage, but then emptied the rest in at 10 litres so this would confirm the guage is not acurate at all !
An average of 178-181 miles per litre is not a lot, will see if this improves as we go on.

The consumption on here seems really high

From my transporter I am getting 5000 miles for 10 litres
Vivaro does around 4000 miles for 10 litres
Peugeot Expert does similar to the Vivaro

Our van goes over 4000 miles on one full tank of adblue. I get the garage to top it up when it has annual service and it’s never added more than a few pounds to the bill. Also keep a 5 litre container and a funnel at home “just in case” but it’s a faff filling it at home so avoid it if possible

Ha ! Ha ! I find it easy enough and prefer to fo it myself, as the 10 ltr containers have a unique little spout which fit's into the neck perfectly, you must push all the way in, as the last inch opens the flap fully ! Also now prices virtually doubled you will find a £5 top up at service will become £20 you mark my words Bob 🙈

Think it must be a 12L tank.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Ducato has a 19 liter urea reservoir.

Light came on at 1431 miles from new, but who's to say it was full 🤷‍♂️ Dealer's don't rim anything do they???
So showing half a tank and just put 10 ltrs but showed full with 8 ltrs, so there's a 2 ltr margin, although still not rimmed, so thinkiin only had approx 16-17 ltrs from new. Am I correct presuming there's now around 19 ltrs in tank, this should get 3,000-3,500 miles to empty, is this acceptable, not really 🙈
The only gtee that it is full is to brim tank until it overfows or nearly.Gauge can show anything.

Is this just a Ducato "problem". What are Peugeot/Citroen owners getting?

I just bought some at Halfords but it's not cheap at around £9.50 for a plastic bag of 3.5L....

Yes but do they consume the same amount of Adblue, I bet they don't ! ! ! Anybody comment on this, also are any using a half a litre of oil every 600 miles on new vehicles 2021-2023 as mines just took a full litre after 1500 miles 2022 2.2???

That`s a lot of oil consumption !

Tell me about it, only picked it up in Jan brand new after speaking to dealers, say this can be normal with a new engine, I always thought it was high milers that burnt oil 🤷‍♂️ Saw this post attached and not sure what to think of it all, it's a little worrying to say the least.

Fiat 140; surely it all depends how far your right foot is planted, we have done most of our 3500m from new on not too steep inclines and guage hardly moved. Went across the pennines last bank holiday and obviously floored it so now need to top up.
Our T6.1 150 weighs less gets floored everywhere and has done twice the miles but has only used 50% of its 16000 mile range, at least Vw give us a range/litres reqd and you put only that much in where as Fiat is chuck some in and guess amount !!
To me its not an issue you know your range and top us as required, bought 40 litres on bulk other month from motor factors and have done 160k with 2 previous Vws since 2016 with adblue. Are you sure the adblue is the same quality/% as one T6 pissed through halfruads crap

Just returned from Ireland where we had an AdBlu 'problem'. I topped it to overflowing before we set off and having done under 1500 miles the low Adblu light came on. Topped it to overflowing again and warning didn't go off. Both times we topped up from Adblu 5 litre cans. Thinking that we had a system fault we called our local dealer and the very nice girl in the service department explained the problem. There's a flap just inside the AB filler neck. The nozzle on the cans must push past this to allow the fluid into the tank. If it doesn't the fluid spills out giving the impression that it's overflowing even though there may be naff all in the tank. She recommended using the bulk dispensers at filling stations that HGV drivers use as the nozzles are longer. This solved our 'problem' and I now will take particular care when filling from a can. Obvious when it's been explained to you !! Herself just thinks it's me losing the plot!!

I read somewhere recently that this isn't recommended as the flow rate is too high.

All you need is one of these. It has a long "neck" which is long enough to push open the flap.

Just filled the adblue tank on my Elddis. It had a service and they did oil and the adblue at the time. That was the end of March. I have done 1778 miles since then and could only get 2.5 litres in before it started coming back out of the filler. Not seen the light come on yet. It's a Peugeot Boxer 2019.........

Our 2021 Fiat 140 (auto) has over 6,000 miles on the clock now, and hasn't needed oil topping up yet

Will be looking into it as engine now run in after 1500 miles, will do a consumption test on it before dealer's sort my snag list they promised !

That looks like it would do the job nicely. Doing it fourhanded with SWMBO works but can be fraught if the AdBlu splashes herself!

Mine used a lot in the first 2 years. I researched it a d it does appear modern engines use a bit of oil as the drive for economy and emmisions means they try to reduce friction, which in turn means oild can 'seep through' the cylinders.

However, when I had the first service the technician mentioned that the oil filter seemed to be leaking. Not screwed in tightly apparently. Might be worth checking.

210 miles per litre for me

Warning can come up in 1500 miles but the warning starts very early. You can get 1000 miles after the first warning!!!

19 litres is the full adblue tank so if it takes 10 litres it's only half empty .

This is worth a watch..

On our car there's a minimum amount of adblue that you're supposed to put in at a time so you have to wait until it says it needs it

Car's different from Vans tbh you can fill tank as often as you like, but as we looking do Europe later in year I need know exactly how far we can go on a full tank. I know it will depend on how much right foot down, but thinking will go extra 100-200 miles in eu as it's not exactly Wales or Scotland lol.
So I've rimmed tank so 19.5 litres, 1st light top up and that's approx half as seem to take 10 litres to re-rim 🤷‍♂️

Why are most of these videos so long winded.
He could have said what was needed in 30 seconds.

I've a new Ducato, its still 2.3, (2287cc actually), 160bhp, with a 75 litre fuel tank. Its the 160Multijet2. There isn't a 2.2 version. It does 3200miles on a full tank of Adblue before the warning light comes on, and it would seem that when that happens there is about 3-4 litres left in the tank.
Slight change of topic but, I have 2021 Swift Kon-Tiki 599, Ducato 2.3 160 maxi and when the adblue warning light come on I can't get in 9.46L (I'm travelling in US and Adblue/DEF comes in 2.5 US Gallon/9.46L containers). If I understand correctly the Ducato is fitted with a 19L adblue tank, this suggests the warning light comes on with 10L still in the adblue tank or the tank is NOT 19 litres as my research and others have posted.
No level indicator in 2021 models.

I’m surprised that Fiat don’t do the same as Mercedes and let you monitor the adblu level on the app along with other levels. Certainly takes the stress out of things!

We don't have an app for fiat, ours is a 2021 and I've read through most of the literature and haven't come across one yet.🤔
Mercedes are in a league of their own I suspect.

The Fiat engine is different, the other 3 are all PSA. Nissan & Mercedes use a Renault engine in some of their vans. Next year VAG & Ford will also be sharing. VW's new T7 will be the new Transit Custom the Amarok and new Skoda pick ups will be the Ford Ranger & the Ford Transit connect will be the VW Caddy.

The new Fiat Multijet III is a poor performer and is only really competitive with it's rivals when mated to the 9 speed AT gearbox. It's why it consumes so much Adblue compared again to it's rivals.

The 180 with a manual box has less torque than the Ford 130.

Ford have an app too which offers the same information plus you can lock & unlock the cab & hab doors. It also acts as a tracker.
