We have booked into the aire at Foz d’ Arehlo

Nice house with fancy roof detailing but see below for the eyesore opposite
 
The big black beam in the the little cafe is an old wine press and we saw two whilst in town. Every home used to have one and they made all their own wine. Nowadays Obidos is famous for a sour cherry liqueur and all the shops sell it.
 
You have to go to Fatima while your in the area they have a free site there ,if it's full you can stay on the car park. It's an experience. (y)
Oh dear! Missed opportunity then as we have moved on to the Marble triangle between Evora, Elvas, Estremoz and Vila Vicosa to see the marble built into the houses. Currently on an aire at Terrugem in the middle.

I like their thinking in Obidos Motorhomes Park for free during the day on the Aire but cars have to pay in the car park.
Jim:s right you shouldn't have missed Fatima I would describe it as the Portuguese equjvelant of Lourds but more upmarket.
 
Ah that might explain it! The very posh door is the entrance to the Parador Hotel in the Cathedral square.
That's true. I walked the Camino from Ferrol w/b 13th Sept. Arriving in the square on the 18th to find it blocked off as the President of Columbia was visiting. More police than pilgrims! Wife enjoyed it.......

Just catching up with your thread Abacist. Thanks for all the lovely photos and commentary it is a lovely reminder off a similar journey of ours many years ago. Enjoy the rest of your trip.
