A word or phrase that tells me why you "MotorHome"?

Due to family commitments in the UK we're unable to move to our beloved France so we spend 3 months of the year on the same site in the South of France. Nearest thing to having a house over there. Costs about £3-4 k per year but a LOT cheaper than staying in a hotel and it always feels like 'coming home' when we arrive. Bus passes, train passes, old friends, familiar faces and places. C'est Merveilleux!

A more enjoyable way than Easyjet to get to our boat in Greece.

Where is she moored in Greece?

My home port was Poros/Galatas. When it was running my cheapest and comfortable way was: Bus pass to BA LHR - 2330 to ATH - first bus (0500?) to Piraeus - first ferry to Poros - Arr about 0930. Down to Stavros for coffee, which if lasted too long morphed into a beer when old sealags surfaced. I am still in touch with some of those guys - one an ex S/Major Canadian Black Watch lives on his boat still, but now in Marmaris; another is Master of the steamship on Conistonwater.

I saw my old vessel, now in good care of old friend, in the old boatyard, when we were down there in the MH last Sept, collecting some of my old books.

On another island we were parked on bays I had moored in many times previously. Happy memories - regrets? No it was time to change and do the travelling a different way. We still saw the same old friends that I have known on the islands for 40 years, yes 40 years.

Just to get away. And try to find A certain DUCK and pinch the scotch he trys to hide. And as i said get away before he finds mine. Or before he gets my wife tipsy on the pimms. And finding friends who where hiding from me.

Me thinks I have found that DUCK too very nice duck but can get you into so much trouble

Slightly longer explanation that is called for. I was into Sportcars of a kind that you either Love or Hate, in my case Morgan, but with a Wife who was Neutral and a Dog who was Anti, and with a two seater, it took a virus courtesy of a 1hour flight to the UK to decide being together was more important than the Morgan. My visit to the UK was only for 24 Hours for a meeting that I had to attend in person, a week later we were booked to traveI over via Tunnel.

A week later drove back to the UK thinking I had Flu but after trying to see a Doctor and finally A & E. I decided to make a ' Run for the Border' after experiencing the NHS as a 'Non - Resident' Brit. Made it to Calais and the hospital , told another 24 Hours it would have been curtains. resulted in a four week stay in two hospitals; intially in Calais and then transported 700kms to Angouleme our Regional Hospital. I am 100% positive about the French Health Care system compared to the UK; but the Ambulances are another matter,

In other words decided life together was more important and sold the the 'Mog' to spend more time together rather than going off 'solo'.

My wife won’t fly.

Absolutely love your idea of photos from your round top door memories of places of times you’ve had brilliant 🤩

Those old enough will know that the idea was stolen from the BBC children’s programme ‘Play School’. At the end of the programme they’d take a look through one of a number of window shapes (round, arched, square, if memory serves me correctly) to see the view out of the window. 👍😎

Not sure about the cheaply bit. If you want cheap then flight+hotel is usually far the cheapest way of going anywhere.

I think that depends on duration of trip, e.g 2 weeks staying in one place then maybe.

If 2 months and wanting to see several regions/countries, then flying and renting a car and staying, even in B&B not hotels, might prove a lot more expensive.

Well, started 39 years ago in a cheap 12’ Monza caravan (glass windows, foot pump for water, gas mantel in lights, happy clappy toilet etc), with three daughters only way we could afford family holidays. 32 years later and several different caravans in between, swapped caravan for MH and get out and about throughout the year now. Grandchildren come too from time to time. It’s well and truly “In the blood” so to speak.

Freedom to go wherever , sleeping in our own bed, taking our own things

She is based south of Preveza, near the airport, just across the gulf. We sail generally south, between Levkada and the Peloponnese. We used to fly but we're prompted to buy our motor home by the pandemic, the idea of having ones own bubble was attractive but we have grown to love the trip, and it is great for carrying all the boat kit. This year we brought the floor panels home for revarnishing! We always travel with a very full garage. We will.probably spend a couple of weeks this year exploring Greece in the van so really liking forward to that.
