After a walk around Buttermere and morning tea (and a lovely it is too) it was off to Tebay south bound. Why can't other motorway service stations be more like these. Shame they only have 2 in the country....thus far.
Home by 2.30pm. A truly wonderful few days in the Western Lake District.
I was a few seconds late to get a good picture of a hare outside the digs.

Crummock Lake next to Buttermere.

Thats all folks.
Bulgaria on 6th of next month for 2 n a bit weeks.

A really interesting house. The guide told us that William Blathwayt inherited it from his father-in-law - his heiress daughter was 36 when she married William, so with no brothers if she hadn’t married she wouldn’t have inherited the house.

There was a brilliant painting at the end of a short passage:

The guide told us it’s a ‘perceptual painting’ that encouraged the viewers to make their own story up as they looked at the painting, explaining ‘that they didn’t have telly in those days’ - she must have overheard Cliff, he always says that’s why Shakespeare plays were so popular in those days!
