A photo of the day thread

Elephant Seal Beach. Hundreds recently given birth and are about to. Large males can weigh up to 5000IB's in American money.

We didn't grab a photo at its worst, too busy grabbing passports etc but what you see are 50 metres tall palm trees alight 400 metres away from us in campsite. Flames maybe 75 m high. Heat so intense that it was like standing 3 m from a huge bonfire. Fears were the palms seen in the foreground and 10 m from us might catch from embers blowing our way.

I've had many a happy evening in the old Castle Inn ... unfortunately when we visited last time the building was closed and all boarded up.:crying:

Good to see it back in business even though I understand only about 3 days a week.

Lovely place, had my Larkins in there yesterday and booked Sunday lunch for next weekend. They’re on reduced opening times, as some days they’ve not had anyone through the door.

As it happened we didn't KiwiKampers , staff insisted people walk away while they could. It was dark, access very difficult exiting the pitch and there would have been 20 or so 7m plus mhs and liners jostling for position. Probably the right decision. Of the mhs that did leave, one forgot to disconnect his electric and another disconnected his awning before driving over it... Panic, even mild, makes us do strange things.

Here is a little walk I like to do and it’s only possible a few days each month. On low water spring tides you can rock hop and make it to Polmear island, just west of Charlestown harbour. There is a lovely cove that is usually not possible to reach. There is an aspect from the rock to Charlestown. The rock hop is from duporth beach

The ledge along the Island is normally covered with water, today the tidal height at low water is 0.3 and tomorrow 0.5 which will make the ledge awash. The day after is 0.7 and then steadily gets higher each low water until the next low water spring.

On a Camping-Car Park Aire at Le Gouzec. It operates as a full camp site from beginning of June to the end of September then becomes Motorhomes only for the rest of the year. At this time of year cost is about €9 including EHU (6amp). There is a good borne with drive over grey waste and toilet/washroom/shower facilities if you need them.

A walk of 300 metres brings you to the canal which also has a Voie Verte cycle track beside it.

Moved on today to Port-Luis and on another Camping-Car Parks Aire. Right on the seafront and about a ten minute walk into the town and marina. Hard surface with EHU (6amp), modern borne with electrically operated tap. (Touch green for on red for off). No WiFi on this one.

should look even better when the tide comes in.

Just had three nights at Braithwaite Village C&CC site, nr Keswick.

Very nice, recently renovated site with big pitches and excellent facilities.

Ha...arrived in Moffat yesterday after 3 nights at Braithwaite. Thought for a minute you'd accessed my camera 🙂😀

Moffat this afternoon. 10 new hard standing pitches under construction and place getting busy as the weekend approaches. Good injection of money for the local economy. 👌 And that's a little snow on the tops.
