Got a bit behind on the photos 😉 we have so much to do these day's with the heat and long day's walking cycling and swimming and soon socialising. 🍺

The edge of Benimeli where we parked the car, this ridge has a cut out in it known as the notch, and for the last 4 odd years every time Janie spots it she says I've had lunch up there, so I can say the same now. 😁👍

A walk climb you wouldn't want to do everyday, our day was very hot, but a slippery dangerous or sometimes covered in low cloud when it's not. 😁 Bob.

I took the 'van out for a run today, driving to Meldon Reservoir in the North of Dartmoor near Okehampton. I left early as the best weather was forecast for this morning. I was thrown at the car park as I didn't have any coins for the machine - who carries cash in the Covid era? :) But there was room to park beside the road opposite the entrance to the car park. The joys of a narrow. PVC.

It was about an hour's walk to the summit of High Willhays, which at 621m is the highest point on Dartmoor. Soon after leaving the car park you cross the dam from where there were attractive views of the reservoir.

This is the summit of High Willhays looking back as I left. I had the place to myself when I arrived.

And looking towards Yes Tor which is only a few metres lower than High Willhays.

The reason for coming here was to follow my new hobby of SOTA - Summits On The Air. This is where from the top of a hill you contact other ham radio operators and ideally someone on the summit of another hill.

This is the radio kit I was using.

And my "station" viewed from beside the mast the antenna was attached to. The mast is a 6m Decathlon fishing pole which collapses to under 60cm in length and cost just £18. The Helinox chair is a bit over the top perhaps but it is very comfortable. I have one of the original ones but they now do one half the weight - I'm tempted...

I didn't make as many contacts as I'd hoped but Finland, Sweden and Spain were added to the log but the high point (literally) was a summit to summit with G4IPB who was on the top of Great Whernside in the Northern Pennines.

An impressive hike. My summit today was easier. :)
I love the mirror effect in your photo. Our summit was 826m i think and strava says we did 2300 ft of ascending. My legs are sore today.

I was tempted to have a bucket over me, it's getting too hot for walking. 😎
