we used to call that rose of Sharon, not sure if that is a real name, but seem to recall you can cut very hard after flowering (y)
ts never been trimmed in 20 years!! # lazy gardeners

Bev @CWH put photos on of a white tailed eagle yesterday. Could that be a possibility?
Sorry Joy, been offline for a few days but when I scanned through this morning you did make me laugh!!!
We had an exotic looking bird, a Gold Finch I think, pay a visit our bird table this morning...

yup, a goldfinch, aren't they gorgeous?
 
I've looked Joy , but can't find the post and @CWH has restricted access to view her content . It was very big . I thought eagle but I'm no twitcher .
Sorry, I didn't realise I'd done that, I think I've now undone it...
 
Picture the scene.
Late night. Dark and misty.
Travelling through a narrow, tree-lined lane; the only illumination is the light from your headlamps reflected back at you from the fog and the tree tunnel. Visibility is so bad it reminds you of @JJ 's recent experience in the fires of Portugal. It's all very eerie and you wonder what's ahead.
You edge carefully around a corner and come face-to-face with this :eek:
