25 April is the date some British Army Regiments remember the battle of Gallipoli, my Regiment (The Fusiliers) is one.
@rangitira will, no doubt, be wearing a sprig of Rosemary in remembrance of the fallen.
ANZAC and British forces both had massive losses due to a crap General Staff.

Can't figure out how to post it here using a kindle, but search youtube for Eric Bogle's "Waltzing Matilda".
It says much.

This is the first version of that song that I heard and in my opinion is still the most poignant

When I was a boy the Lancashire Fusiliers were still in existence and the yellow hackle was worn proudly and often, recently on the site we are on in Portugal an ex staff sergeant of the Royal Anglians sadly passed away and i learned of the connection with the Minden rose and Minden day of which you will know far more than I.

This from wikipedia regarding the Gallipoli landings.

  • Gen Sir Ian Hamilton, Commander of the expedition, ordered that ‘W’ Beach should be renamed ‘Lancashire Landing’. He wrote in his despatch: ‘…So strong, in fact, were the defences of ‘W’ Beach that the Turks may well have considered them impregnable, and it is my firm conviction that no finer feat of arms has ever been achieved by the British Soldier – or any other soldier – than the storming of these beaches from open boats on the morning of 25 April. The landing at ‘W’ Beach had been entrusted to the 1st Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers (Maj Bishop) and it was to the complete lack of the senses of danger or fear of this daring Battalion that we owe our astonishing success…Gallantly led by their officers, the Fusiliers literally hurled themselves ashore, and fired at from right, left and centre, commenced hacking their way through the wire. A long line of men was at once mown down as by a scythe, but the remainder were not to be denied…’.
No need to remind you of this of course but may be of interest to some.

@matamoros,
I am proud to have served in the Lancashire Fusiliers, worn the Primrose Hackle and the Minden Roses on 1 August.
I was on the 1968 parade in Hong Kong when we amalgamated to form the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.
Marched on as LF, off as RRF.
RRF still remember Gallipoli, where LF won six VCs and Minden, as well as St George's Day, he being the Regtl Patron Saint.
(Red and white roses worn on his day)

I don't think you needed those steak knives on that lamb!
Trifle looks a bit of alright too.:)

Your right it fell off the bone. I took the foil of to crisp the skin up while the veg cooked cos it was very pale . It'd been cooking slowly in the foil for nearly 4 hours. The garlic bulbs were lush too. Bet we stink !!
We are stuffed now and weve eaten the Lindt bunnys too !

Watlington Hill, there are often 6-10 Kites flying at any 1 time. The birds are flying level with you some of the time.
Stunning picture - Congratulations! I'm envious. Seen plenty of red kites but not like that! (and all my photos are of the end of a tail or the tip of a wing...)
