2018 anniversary trip 200 / 100 max miles per day for 22 days

@Scout just while fresh in my mind, the most important component for your travel after passports is one of these adaptors

Apart from if people like me forget and leave the adaptor after filling I have never seen anything other than a bare thread

Another for your list unless you already have one :giggle:
Always carry ½ doz plus the various size adaptors, also need a male connector as a lot of the new Bornes have a female hose connector, one of the male to male hose joiners does the job.

got one thanks, now where did I put it:unsure:
You will need more than one. On every trip of a reasonable length I leave at least one on a tap somewhere in Europe, and sometimes more (not on the same tap)! At the moment I have 4 in my water bits box. Otherwise you will find yourself having to look for a Mr Bricolage or similar.

Edit - Lenny beat me to it yet again. But I think his 6 is OTT. But I also agree with him about needing the double male connector as well. But I have only two of those because you normally have to take them out in order to stop the water running.

Probably it is as I've only lost 2 in 10 years.

morning Phil, Lola is good and seems fully mended, she does seem to like French dog food, or maybe just the change

today we drive to Castelanne for a look for possible site options, but don't expect anywhere to be open there, too remote to justify, so will review the aire options, then on to the med coast, either today or tomorrow

I want to take Bev for lunch in Eze tomorrow, its a beautiful cliff top village looking down over Nice / Monaco / out to sea, we went there pre married days and spent almost our weeks budget on a couple of drinks, slight exaggeration, but they were expensive and our budget was much tighter in those days :)

Hi David really enjoying your updates looks like your have a good trip so far, if your going to Castelanne you'll find a private Aire at the war Muesuem about 1/2 mile from town. If memory serves me right it was around €10 a night with hook up and wifi.

This is us there in November last year.

afternoon all, not got far today but only because we chose to stop do things, mainly because we are now too close to one of our favourite locations, Gorge du Verdon

A road closure took us a long way round to Castellan, we drove in and out of the aire in town which is free for winter (y) but we were early enough to take a drive round gorge du Verdon which as soon as we started Bev decided was inappropriate in the MH, I could see her point within reason, but wasn't that bad

Then we came to another road closure taking us off the main road and was going to make the journey much longer and on much narrower roads, but I did manage to convince Bev to let me drive past the road closure sign, which did say in a further16km, to a view point which was only about 5km further down

Which we did and boy am I glad we did, awesome views, great bird watching and found ourselves a stop over point to have you all begging for the coordinates :)

trouble is, lovely spot that it is I cant load any photos

Have you got a lens hood on your camera, or a filter? Seems to be some vignetting in the top corners .
Looks a lovely spot though.

Thoroughly enjoying the trip diary.

see the setting sun allows to figure your orientation, are you staying the night there...

We most definitely are, why would we move, still not enough internet for more photos though

@Langtoftlad talking of photos, nothing so fancy as a filter, think it was my hand

its it not a little bleak and isolated, your braver than me, please lock up .....

are you sure its not a finger:whistle:

David, are you going to give us a clue as to exactly where you are now as it looks very nice.

When I have better (or more than marginal 3G at least) I will put full details and a link

But we are about 5 miles south west of Castellane on D952 place called ‘point sublime’ on our map, there is a monument to a Frenchman for his work on tourism in 1800’s for this region

The better views of the gorge are further downstream but possibly best tackled by car, but I will see what I can get away with tomorrow ;)

First 11kg of gas just ran out, typically after dark but much better now that middle of night. Consumption is high but as night time temp not yet been above zero seems about right (y)

Is that at the Auberge de Point Sublime?

We did the Gorge du Verdon 42 years ago by car. Hope the roads have improved since then otherwise I am not sure you will get much further!

We might have crossed the same roads with you, just been trying to work on when we were first and last here, we think 1979, 1982 and one other but lost in the vapours of middle age :)

Edit - but yes that is where we are

David, I think I may have got the year wrong. We did some of the gorge in 1976 when Angela was pregnant with our first child. We then returned in about 1987 with both kids and drove the whole gorge.

Morning travelers......is it your anniversary today? if so Happy Anniversary if not save it for when it is.

Bitter cold here today, big heavy frost, but lovely sunshine..

How many days have you done on the 11k gas David, I'm beginning to wonder if my two full 13k bottles will do me through my trip, although Ill be speeding through France down to Spain in 4 days and when I come back the frosts should have gone

37 years ago today we got married, it was sunny as this and nearly as cold

We have just exchanged old cards to each other being careful with the pennies now we are getting older, Bev even saves the original envelopes :)

We even have mistletoe in the tree next to where are parked :h:
