Trying hard but will not make it

Hi All<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
We are having a real nightmare the first rain Saturday and our wipers pack up 12 o‘clock . Check fuses all Ok. Call breakdown assist who turn up after 2pm then take us to a repairers who state the wiper motor is shot.. Will have to wait till Monday to order the motor and should have us on our way Monday about 1pm. So as there is no campsites nearby and we cannot drive far in case it rains we opt to camp outside the Garage on the car park which has a supermarket and a multiplex cinema. Quite safe as it is patrolled at night Monday comes can’t get the motor till Wednesday. But if we drive to the Fiat Dealer in Alicante they may be able to do it by Tuesday so we are here awaiting their result. So it does not look like we will make it to cross with you on Wednesday. I believe there is a group who are going later maybe we can tag on with them? <o:p></o:p>
Disappointed <o:p></o:p>

It just got worse

Hi Again

Fiat have told us that there is no motor for our vehicle in Spain it will have to come from Italy so the earliest they can do it is Thursday 16th. They want paying now €270. So three nights in Alicante for us.

Very Disappointed

Bad luck on the wiper situation... You will always find people are crossing, so if you get to the Lidl just locate another Uk van or a Dutch one and get some friendly chat on.. Sure they will help show you he ropes, most info has already been posted regarding how to do it all but if you need any advise PM. Mrmotorhome, myself or one of the other Funster who are already over there..
Good luck...

Oh cock!
Arrived at Bella Vista. To UK weather. Doh!
Parked up now after bending van on tree. Doh!
Now have something for the guys in the desert to repair. Doh!
And guess who left the doormat at Estapona!
It can only get better.

Assilah rain again

Crossed over yesterday in company with Rhubarb Rocks. We were on FRS 1200 sailing - good boat and only a couple of hours late. Stopped at Assilah. weather was fantastic really different to last year.

The town was really alive. Lots of people about. Horse drawn carriages just like Marrakech. A lovely experience.

Parked next to Medina walls next to where the Guardians decided to station themselves all night. By 0200 they had been joined by mates and there were at least eight of them. Chatter, shout, laugh all night long. I spoke with them at 0230 and they were full of apologies but it made no difference. I have never been so glad to hear to early morning call to prayer, after which we got a couple of hours peace before the daily bustle began.

Others, who had parked where we first parked last yea,r reported that the guardians there were arguing all night. It may be better to use the place further out along the beach where I believe some stopped on the way back last year.

This morning we got sorted with internet access. IMWI give unlimited Gb for 3 months for 399Drms including dongle. Be aware you cannot take out the sim to use in a mifi. They also do 4Gb for 2months at 220Drm sim only.

The weather changed when we were out. It is now pi**ing down and the sky is laden.

Met Mustafa who acted as our guide last year. He was as jolly as ever. He confirmed that the guardians tend to drink too much and he says he has nothing to do with them now. Gave him your regards Bryan.

Moving on now, probably to Kenitra for one night, then on to Marrakech again for one night before Taghazout. Hope to catch up with you soon Suggy. :thumb::thumb::thumb:

Hi,

No idea actually, haven't been inspecting vans, but not come across any, seem to be mostly french/german.

Definitely worth a visit though, people are really friendly despite language barrier. Perhaps sytart a new thread to ask? Hope that helps!

Arrived mid afternoon - yes a lot of vans in the car park and just one GB not in funsters group.Any particular good bar suggestions?

Morning All

:Eeek: Major 'Roadworks' on R104 between Tiznit and Tafroute. :Eeek:

For those of you planning to include this very scenic route in your journey be aware that the R104 between Jemaa Ida Oussemlal and Tafroute has been dug-up and is now covered in a temporary surface of railway grade track ballast, it's very very slow going for about 35 kilometres. :Eek!:

MHF LRDG. :Rofl1:

Roadworks still going on then. It was the same last year when we made the mistake of following our satnav instead of the directions in the Aires book.
DONT DO IT! KEEP RIGHT!

Funster convey . So excited for you funsters. Keep the posts coming please :Smile::Smile:

Steve & Andrew called a meeting at 5pm local time to enlighten the Morocco virgins of the why's and wherefore's and the do's and dont's. We will be upping sticks tomorrow and all heading down to Algerciras to get booked on to the ferry for Wednesday and to make last minute purchase of alcohol, pork products and dare I say it condoms :Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1: as none of these items are readily available over there.

Think we have all had rain today both here and in Morocco, but tomorrow the sun will have his hat on hip hip hip hooray.

Ta Ta for now

K & L + Jess

I really am very sorry to hear about your difficulties but worry not. It will get sorted and then you can come on down.

Keep you eyes open for other people who are coming across or get down to the Carrefour/Lidl commercial centre and ask around the British reg vehicles for guidance. Remember that you can always use McDonalds WIFI to contact us. PM if you don't want to go public with your queries.

We all use the internet at different times of day. It may take a while for you to get a reply but you don't need to be in a rush. The parking overnight behind Mercadona won't cost you anything.

Last year we did a dummy run just to get an idea of the area and felt much more comfortable when we did it for real. If push comes to shove PM me for my number and we can have a chat about taking things forward.

Keep you chin up you can still get here to meet up with others. We are still a couple of days away from Taghazout but when we get there we will be staying put for a while. :thumb::thumb:

No, honestly! Did some work for us last year and I recommended him to a couple of people over on the dark side who were also pleased.
Wait til you get to Taghazoute.

I think we now have 16 vans here at Algerciras, all checked in with Carlos... Andrew and myself going over at 6pm to collect the tickets....
All beer, wine etc stored away....

11am crossing on Wednesday... Morocco here we come....

For those looking to get online, I believe there is still a Maroc telecom shop in Asilah at Rue Khalid Ben Oualid n° 41.

The deal should still be 200dh for a SIM card and Dongle. If you are going to be in Morocco for longer than 30 days then it might be an idea to buy a 200dh topup voucher. They have a scratch off rear panel and can be topped up via text message - so don't use it until your dongle runs out (you'll get a text message).

If you want to put the SIM card into your own device eg MiFi or iPad you'll need the APN settings.

We have them listed on our blog - if anything has changed, please let me know!
