šŸ˜€ Just been threatened with a lawyer

Are you referring to the Private Eye case? I'll include it below for anyone who hasn't read it, it's brilliant.

This case is well known among lawyers and journalists, especially the phrase "I refer you to the reply given in Arkell and Pressdram". Basically, it refers to a legal case whereby Mr Arkell was accused by British satirical magazine Private Eye of illicit payments, and they had ample evidence to back this up. After printing the allegations, Private Eye received the following letter:

Solicitors' letter to Private Eye:

We act for Mr Arkell who is Retail Credit Manager of Granada TV Rental Ltd.

His attention has been drawn to an article appearing in the issue of Private Eye dated 9th April 1971 on page 4. The statements made about Mr Arkell are entirely untrue and clearly highly defamatory.

We are therefore instructed to require from you immediately your proposals for dealing with the matter. Mr Arkell's first concern is that there should be a full retraction at the earliest possible date in Private Eye and he will also want his costs paid. His attitude to damages will be governed by the nature of your reply.

The reply that the Eye sent back was:

We acknowledge your letter of 29th April referring to Mr J. Arkell.

We note that Mr Arkell's attitude to damages will be governed by the nature of our reply and would therefore be grateful if you would inform us what his attitude to damages would be, were he to learn that the nature of our reply is as follows: flip off.
Aaaaaahh lovely! Thanks for reminding me. PE is all that keeps me sane.

Iā€™ve received a series of emails from a furious woman in Surrey. Her complaint? A motorhome is parked near her driveway. Not blocking it exactly, but apparently close enough to make turning right out of her drive, a bit tricky or near impossible. Naturally, sheā€™s furious.

Why is she ranting at me, you ask?

Because the motorhome has a MotorhomeFun sticker on it. Yes, sheā€™s holding me personally accountable for this parking predicament.

Trying to add some levity, I replied, ā€œDoes it also have a National Trust sticker? Have you sent them a strongly worded email too?ā€

Clearly, she is too angry for humour.

Now sheā€™s escalated her threats. If the motorhome is still there tomorrow, Iā€™ll be hearing from the police for my ā€œmisogyny and rudenessā€ and her lawyer for damages. Damages to what, Iā€™m still unsure, her driveway, her turning radius, or her blood pressure maybe?

So hereā€™s a heartfelt appeal:

If this happens to be your motorhome parked near this womanā€™s driveway...

Please donā€™t move it. At least not for a while; let's give her lawyer some blood pressure, too. '\
Thatā€™s brilliant the thought processes of some people are beyond comprehension. šŸ˜€

Sounds a bit unhinged to me...

I would reply that if she can get out of the drive then she has no case. So perhaps an apology for her rudeness otherwise you will take action for deformation.

Tony (LLB Hons) 2.1 (awarded in July 2023)... no, that is true honestly.

Jim I wouldn't reply to anything, it will go away once advice has been taken

I know we do not normally correct things, but as deforming (To change physical shape) Jim would be a challenge to anyone, I suspect the writer was meaning defamation. (To defame or to say something bad or false things about the person). I hope Barriesimpson was not deliberately breaching the 'Speling and Gramer' section of the forum rules. https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/spelling-grammar.15943/

I had the police turn up at the door once for a similar ā€˜infringementā€™. We had cars parked in front of our house (we had no driveway) and the guy living across the road had complained it made access from his driveway difficult. The police insisted it was in fact our problem and that we move our cars elsewhere.

Yes!

but even then it's touch and go sometimes? šŸ˜„

As I have found out in the past.

Iā€™m not sure if some donā€™t read posts or totally miss the smiley face I put in a post.

Or the need spec savers šŸ¤”šŸ˜‚

I am not sure that is fair to say 'anyone'. Some are absolutely Christian in their outlook on life. Yes you get the bigots, the 'Holier than thou' hypocrites, and the downright evil who use the churches as a cover for their wicked ways, as well as those who fail to see that their actions are hurting, offending or upsetting others, but to say it's everyone, is, in my experience, unfair.

Also as fair as I am aware, attending a church service on a Sunday does not 'wipe the slate clean'. The only time anything like that happens is in the Catholic, (and I think Orthodox) churches, where on rare occassion the sacrement of reconciliation is offered en masse when priests are unable to deal with all the 1:1 confessions and then give 'General Absolution'.

This is the path Iā€™m taking šŸ˜Š

Luke 15:7 American Standard Version (ASV)I say unto you, that even so there shall be joy in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine righteous persons, who need no repentance.

Well sorry to say, no more emails from the lady, and nothing from Lawyer J. Noble Daggett, so looks like I'm in the clear. '\
One of my favourite films is that.

Well that went straight over my head, I have no idea what you are trying to say.
