Last time I was over I used dedicated motorhome spaces on the harbour side. Also out of town and bus in.

I agree that Galway really do not want motorhomes. Have always stopped there on our travels but last time we were touring we just gave up. You can't even park long enough to nip in the Tourist Board for advice. It wasn't that it was busy as loads of empty parking places all of which banned motorhomes. Sad.

There was also talk of banning the street buskers too but no idea if this took place.

The buskers were part of the reason for me going there

Don't judge coming to Ireland off Galway. Galway has a terrible reputation for allowing motorhome parking. The rest of Ireland is a lot friendlier!!
We certainly wouldn't. We did the NC500 this year and have the WAW on our radar for perhaps next year. We have never visited in our MH, but have been many times for business and pleasure. It is a beautiful place, and we have always been made to feel very welcome. 🇮🇪 ❤️

Agree with all comments regarding Galway not welcoming motorhomes, however if you do want to visit the city there is a caravan site at Salthill that will rip you off for €40+ per night.

The problems in Galway is the campsite owners have a few owners on the council…

Funny thing Nigel - We are thinking of a circuit the north and west of Ireland as part of a trip to Spain from the north of England next year. With a ferry from Eire direct to Spain.......

We've given ourselves 8 weeks in Éire, then the rest of the summer in the north of Spain as per.
We're thinking 8 weeks might not be long enough to do the trip without rushing, but too long for us to cope with the weather.
It's been a awhile since we've experienced the two-wet-dogs-in-a-motorhome syndrome ...

There is, (or used to be) a nice campsite at Westport House. It had a small shop for milk and the like, and a bar that opened weekends last time we went. There were storks nesting in the surrounding trees.

Currently in Ireland and have just spent seven weeks coming up the WAW. It’s been a stunning journey and there are so many bits we didn’t see. You would need months to do every signed bit of it. Some of it does get tight and be prepared for some van vibration on some of the roads 😂
Now in Londonderry ( amazing place) having finished the WAW and will slowly amble down to Dublin.
A few photos to give you a taste. You will love it.

We're contemplating the NC500 next year as well as the Southern100 and TT. If you have any info on MH parking please share. 😀

We ended up cutting our trip a bit short bldue to injury (only minor, and nothing to do with motorhome travel). Stops were....
The Apiary @ Dalwhinnie - Good little cafe, free stop, no services, book in advance.
Rosemarkie CCC site. Beautiful place to stay. We managed to get a pitch on the front row. Walk to the point to see Dolphins and Seals etc.
Golspie Beach car park. 5 decent size spaces (PVC's could probably grab a car space). No services. Right on the shoreline. A good stop before Dunrobin Castle. All above one-night stops.
Dunnet Bay CAMC Site. Great site on a fantastic beach. Stayed here 3 nights. Did John O'Groats on way in. Castle of Mey the next day. Got battered by a storm the next day, but manage to get to Scrabster to eat at The Captain's Galley. Excellent food, not cheap, but fresh, with friendly service. We dined early (6pm) and, having called in advance, managed to squash our bus into their small car park. If the weather had been better, we would have spent the next day exploring the coastline on foot.
Farr Bay Inn, Bettyhill. £10 pub stop on an uneven car park. No facilities. We did okay as we got there early so found a level-ish bit. Another beautiful beach to explore 500m away. Pub is basic and expensive. There is a campsite through the west end of the village.
From there, and due to the injury, it was a bit crash-bang. Next stop was Ullapool Camping for a night. Great place to stay, and the town was okay to poke about. Then we headed off down to Dumfries for one night.
In summary, we did not do the route justice. We rolled past a lot of the attractions en-route as walking any distance was not possible for Mrs B. We did note that parking at some of them, Smoo Cave for example, was fairly busy (mid-September). The east coast of the route was interesting. The top and west coast scenery is up there with anywhere I have ever driven in my life. Stunning!
We would not do the whole route again, but we will certainly revisit the west coast and Isles. We passed many places where you could hole-up for a night. Special thanks to Liddle in Fort William who let us overnight there for free. We had no negative interactions with locals. Far from it, in fact. We found the roads okay with our 7.5m bus.
If you are heading from the south, come up the Northumberland coast into North Berwick, then around the Neuk of Fife.
I hope the above is of assistance. Safe and happy travels.

Campsite closes 1st Sept but looked lovely, they did allow us to empty the black waste and refill the water.

We did the Rosslare to Stroke city route first night planned for the aire in Cobh however this was full with a lot of vans that appeared to be long term right by the train line and noisy. Sign showing other places to park in county Cork, ended up in the distillery car park Midleton very quite free with waste, toilets and fresh water recomended.

We've done most of it over a number of trips, I'd say there are bits which are way tighter than the Scottish W coast (blind lanes with grass up the middle), you need to be careful with a larger van. Site situation is similar to the UK, in that official stops are caravan orientated, and often out of town. Similarly tourist places expect tourists to pay...
However, as you might expect, there is more willingness to accept people doing their own thing, and the locals are largely very friendly.
