So

we’re going to the NEC on thursday, we’ll be there a max of 6 hours possibly less looking to spend (maybe) £225000 less PX
on an A Class

1. max 8mtrs

2. Not white (silver)

3. 2 berth (poss 4) so 4 belts

4. Island bed (poss singles)

5. double floor but don’t want to have to climb a staircase to get in/out

6. big garage for folding elec bikes, chairs, table but no high bed inside

7. Must be auto and poss Merc but not essential so Iveco or something else

8. enough roof room for 600w min solar

This will poss be our last motorhome so good build quality with no shitty dealer backup service would be nice

Dealer max 2 hours but pre preferred less from West Yorks, is their any good dealers out there ???

Can you think of anything else and i’m not a fan of the TV in the hab door entrance either

cheers
Al

PS. Val will not entertain rouffle leather so has to be nice n smooth

Go for a Frankia with a rear lounge. Not as nice as the Rapido inside though IMHO.

I’ve waited to reply Dave to have a good think about what we saw

My opinion only but we didn’t see anything better than what we’ve already got, ok some might have been better quality but it they didn’t look as nice then what’s the point

To be fair our interior fittings and cabinets are very good, nice n bright and modern looking

The electrical/gas appliances work perfect, even the 3 way fridge works perfect, i’ve upgraded the electrical system massively as you know so that works perfect

Once I get the tv lift and decals replaced we’ll be good to go, we both have decided against a rear lounge so we’ll be hanging onto what we’ve got with VB air suspension on the back end

It's been said many times - each to their own, but come on, Varios are the wrong side of ugly - IMHO
You re not even inside before the quality and finish are very apparent. Ok I prefer the forward control front and would want a different platform but otherwise a lovely thing. I pretty much knew it wasnt what Al n Val was after so a little tongue in cheek but just pointing out theres a lot more out there than you see at the NEC.

I am honestly amazed that people are paying such huge amounts for fairly run of the mill Mh's.

I hope your not referring to a Cathargo Steve, £265k on something that’s looks like it’s from the 70’s doesn’t float our boat and i’ve already said I don’t want a Morelo 🤣
Not all Carthago,s have dark cabinets.

Exactly, if you have the money and means it’s no issue, I love it when I hear people have done well for themselves and enjoying life.
I have relatives who have their own business, he’s just spent over 30 grand on a watch. It’s a watch to tell the time with some will say. Get it spent if you can afford it.

That’s why we have a brand new Concorde, 💰💰💰 if you want the best you have to pay for it. Moneybags Paul my nickname but I don’t like to brag about it😄

True but the china cabinet ruins it for us, it’s so last century, and the dark floor, sorry not for us.

At the end of the day you either like it or not, Val def does not so they are a non starter for us, you see plenty on the road though so a lot must like them

The one on the Carthago stand standing right at the front had the front offside light bezel hanging off, the bathroom door handle came off in my hand so it didn’t instill me with a lot of confidence to buy one.

I’m always amazed how anyone can put something of demonstration which isn’t 110% perfect, first impressions are lasting ones in our book.

Yes but you need to start at about £600k for a entry level Vario, not everybody can or even wants to run an old bus like yours let alone taking the C test to drive one, you know I love the build of Vario especially the older bodywork but not the old interiors and I/we prefer our Palace interior , now if somebody would rebuild an old Vario with our interior and keep it useable at under 7500kg that might be a nice van  or there again we could just spend a huge amount of money on a run of the mill MH because we like it and as somebody else said "we can".

Who even has a china cabinet in a motorhome 😂😂. On Thursday I found lots of loose drawer and cupboard knobs, one destroyed flyscreen, screws missing, stiff drawers, poor finishing and some terrible upholstery stitching….and this was in huge variety of vans, many from the top end. It’s nit acceptable in a budget van let alone top end. I guess some of the public can be heavy handed but missing screws ???

I wasnt meaning Morelo Martin because they are a bit special( and tbf the OPs £225k wouldnt buy one) I'm talking about people spending £200k on Hymers, Dethleffs etc and £150+ on a low profile because it has 4x4, its absolutely crazy.

Ok an older motor doesnt suit everyone but you get a huge amount more for your money on a much more robust platform once you cross into C licence, and if somebody cant pass a C licence should they really be driving one thats stretching the boundaries at 7.5t?

If you’ve got the money spend it, personally I love the interior of the Carthago we have. It would have been cheaper to get the Frankia refurbished but then all the rest of the money would have been sitting there, I can only fit so many motorbikes in my garage. 😎

All the gear, and no idea!

The only thing wrong with that sentence Jon is not everyone will fail the C licence cos they can’t drive, it could be (like in my case) something medical that prevents them from doing so!
At work I sometimes drive a 100ton fully loaded dumptruck and in the past, large motor scrapers, once even a 8x8 Volvo F12 cab Terberg 16 speed manual on a power station, so I think I’m more than capable of driving a class2 truck, but when I was 21 I couldn’t get past the medical! Ironically now the criteria has been changed slightly I have been told I would pass the medical but at 58 it’s a bit too late for me👍

Maybe they subcontracted the build out on that one to Bailey:unsure:

No but my £1Million would and I still wouldn’t buy one

They’re only special if you think they are, simple as that and unfortunately they aren’t in our opinion

We saw a Vario parked in Spain on the same site to us, it was on a lorry chassis quite old (or looked old) and did resemble one of the old council rural library buses, but as the owner said they park it on sites for 6 months in winter so only drive it twice a year.

The site we were on had one that was a Library on Mondays and you could get your blood pressure taken on a Tuesday then it was a shop for the remainder of the week. 😂
