3 years 30,000 miles UK and Europe.. Campsites and off Grid.
I bought my motorhome brand new in March 2021. Insurance cost with Comfort was £341. No previous motorhome driving experience. 8000 miles limit.

March 22 it went up to £387 although I did increase miles to 10,000.

March 2023 Comfort have asked for £428 for same cover as last year.

Is this reasonable? 2 years of driving experience, No claims and a another increase of over 10%. Is this just inflation?

Also, is this a reasonable price for 60 year old in a £60,000 van parked on my drive. (I know - area can affect premiums). Just don't want to over pay.

We've just experienced something similar with Comfort having been with them for 6 years. Check out Saga, though usually more expensive, they were more competitive this time so we've switched to them.

A broker once told us that the price is dependent upon how keen the insurance company is for the business. Looks like Comfort are happy with their level of risk and don't want or need to extend that with more policies.

I recently moved to LV and find them to be competitive/cheap. I did the quote by phone

Last week Saga quoted me £750.
I took the renewal price of £260 with my present insurers Principal.

Our renewal has just come through, it will be our third year with LV. Renewal premium, fully comp ( no breakdown cover) is £200. I am pleased with that, 62 year old driver, kept down the side our our house. Van is a 19 plate.

I had an interesting conversation with LV operator about insuring our homebuild 2017 camper (i dont know if this is relivent to a coachbuild but suspect it does) They base the premium on the base van and mark it as a conversion. If there is a claim it is then that you have a conversation with there valuer.

My situation is very similar - but I have a 2019 690G, I'm 73 parked on my drive and 8K miles per year
I've not kept a record of my payments as they have never been surprising and I've been reasonable happy with the price each year
Mines due in March so I'll keep this in mind. I did pay £406 including £65 European breakdown cover last year - so £341
Do you have breakdown cover?
I'll not be happy if mine goes up 10% - maybe its time for a change

Doesn't seem to be any logic involved. I'm with Comfort. Quoted twice what it was last year. Not claimed.

Cheers will call tomorrow 👍
No idea what they're like as last year was my first year with them and I didn't make a claim.
My renewal went down £60 from the previous year.
I don't have breakdown with them just insurance.

I am with Ageas through Lifesure as a broker. Cost under £300 last year and this year barely any increase

This from Confused.com might help add some context to your post:

Of course, they have 'skin in the game' as they say and so will want to encourage people to shop around but it's interesting reading nonetheless.

Also depends on what else is included, breakdown, named driver, alterations, security added, excess quantity, abroad cover. Will you actually use 10k of miles?
Named drivers, it's a double edged sword. Would you're named driver be happy driving back from Euro land in an adversity, as that's what the insurance company would expect?
We're in our 3rd year with AIB, who also cover our little scooter as well, we're happy with them, but as they say, "the proof is in the eating"
Mike.

I've just realised that the value of my van has increased way above what I paid for it - more than 10% :clap2:

I shouldn't be so surprised
Just make sure they know that it has increased

LV are excellent, but I thought they sold policies direct?

Mine was £570 with A plan underwritten by L&V, stored on the path until I find storage. Found storage at a CL within walking distance called them up to inform them of the address, that will be £80 extra as storage is more of a risk than on the drive.

Insurers do not reward loyalty, it's always a good thing to shop around at least 3 weeks before your renewal date. As a newbie to MH at the time, I went through the Caravan and Motorhome Club. They use LV as broker and Highway Insurance and is competitive to those quoted in this thread.

I will be picking you my first motorhome in the next 2 weeks and I will be in it full time so this is interesting. It’s a 2006 Bessecar E695 which I think the base is a Fiat Ducato ???
I’ll be in Europe a lot and breakdown cover is a priority for me so can anyone advise who includes this in their policy when you folks have been getting quotes ? I’ve a note of all the companies in the post so I’ll report back on prices quoted 👍

What person 'A' pays compared to person 'B' or 'C' is a pointless discussion, because insurance premiums vary vastly and depends on a multitude of factors:-
  1. driver profiles (age, history etc)
  2. van type, age, value, security levels, storage location inc post code
  3. intended mileage
There are also many other factors that underwriters will consider when deciding the 'risk' and subsequent premium so it is impossible to 'compare' in a meaningful way.

But as an example, I have paid £300/year with Comfort for my 19MY PVC with the Mrs as a named driver, and it have only increased by £20 since 2019 when I had no NCB. I have just renewed with CAMC for a 23MY PVC and saved £40/yr, it will be interesting to see what next years renewal will be ?
