We have passed this beaux village a couple of times and it is a walled town similar to Carcasonne only smaller
Parking is paying but there is a grotte 500 m up the road to vernet where you can allegedly park for free and overnight.
Our free stop was 6.5 Kms up at vernet and we rolled in on the bikes reaching 50 kph down the hill.
There is a river (tet) that runs round the outside
We got here early. Before 1100 hrs and the place was lovely and Q. Noted that some of the shops didn't open til 1100.
Lovely looking restaurants and bars came with a price, as did a walk round the ramparts for 4 euros. A boule of ice cream was at 3.50 and Jupiler was 3.10.
You will gather this is a bit of a tourist trap in our opinion.
You even have to pay for parking at the train station which doesn't happen in many places in France.
There is a look out castle overseeing the town which is a trek uphill and 20 minutes advised but paying to enter that as well.
Just like Carcasonne, it's one of those places you have to see but not necessarily want to return to.
Currently at the train station and noting coaches and cars having to park here and walk to the town
The major thing going for this town, in our view, is that it has le petit jaune train
A few more photos later if internet improves.
Down towards railway station and up to the look out station locking bikes in secure compounds
