My eye injury didn't interrupt my sleep last night but could tell it was still there so woke her up and went to fill up with water but a German was washing their Thetford from the same source so we left with a dribble of sulphur stinking water next to their van and without water that we weren't desperate for (read this again in 2 days !)
We are changing tactics as well as directions now. We are aiming for swimming lakes you can cycle round or somewhere flat to cycle (still looking out for klosters obviously) and we have had our first dry day today. By that I mean no draught beer from a beer garden.
Roth was our original choice but then spotted 3 Aires round the lake so thought we would try one first. The 2 at the lake are 8 euros and the one on the canal was 7.
When we arrived at the first one all we saw was motorhomes pvcs and day vans exiting in droves.
There are supposed to be about 50 spaces and we saw one right on the entry and took it. There was a space next to us as well. We are detached from what looks a Itinerant encampment with tents and caravans parked where they can. But because we were away from it we thought we would stay.
Our cunning plan for today was to cycle to and from Roth then round the lake.
As we left we joined the Main Donau canal. We had cycled some of it earlier on tour but it was big now. Huge. And we saw the canal side Aire where it looked like they had a party being dismantled.
We then saw signs for Aldstadt. We have seen this town before. It is located near Stadtmitte and you follow the signs to Ausfahrt.
We worked out Ausfahrt meant exit a few years ago but Stadtmitte we think means town centre and Aldstadt means old town.
This Aldstadt belonged to Hilpolstein.
With a lovely unusual church where we were serenaded by a rather good singer practicing
Upon exit noticed a berg which appeared free to enter and looks like getting ready for Romeo and Juliet
Then to Roth where we saw the signs that there was a huge triathlon event yesterday. The busy aire now made sense.
It would appear the town is famous for its high quality triathlons with a world champion winning it last year.
Found the tourist information at the back of a stage of what looked like another Shakespearean production ongoing
The door at back of stage is the TO.
Lunch from Kaufland was a packet of pastrami, potato salad, 3 rolls, 2 apricot yoghurts and a couple of welternberg beers. 7 euros !
Made our way back to Rothsee but found a boat lift. But it's not like Thieu where you can see what's occurring.
Then had a non draught beer from the MH and set off round the lake giving us 44km for the day and I may have nodded off at the lake
