We continued north into Slovenia avoiding the tolls. We were heading for Vienna and planning to travel along the Danube into Germany. Ptuj was a convenient stop halfway. A short walk from the town is a large aire with a rundown campsite next door. It is owned by the nearby spa complex and hotel. The campsite office was shut and we had to traipse across to the hotel to book in. Here they were not interested and told us to find a pitch. They were interested in trying to sell us spa treatments at a reduced rate.
A lot of the pitches were taken. A lot by selfish people taking up two places some even three. The pitches were large enough anyway but because nobody was on site certain nationalities took liberties.
We decide it was easier to share a pitch.
There were some interesting chalets made from large wine barrels.
Next day we walked along the river into Ptuj.
Ptuj was quite nice. Apparently the oldest town in Slovenia.
Town was quiet and the locals very friendly. Found a nice cheap bar for a toastie and local beer.
We walked up the back streets that lead up to the castle where you get a good view of the surrounding countryside.
We stayed at Camping Terme Ptuj. We only paid for one pitch. Don't know if it was even allowed but we never saw anybody on the site. As we were leaving a dutch guy came up to us to say he had booked the entire field where we were for a rally. Reception failed to tell us that as well.
