This post is written under the influence of intoxicants. (It has since been adjusted as soberring up)
We set off with the intention of going Kelheim Abensberg (wife looked it up) then weltenburg and back by cruise to Kelheim.
The good news is we achieved that. We may have got plastered on the way.
First up we saw Spiderman on a wall but things became more normal afterwards and grumpson likes spiderman
We then cycled down the river beginning with an A which joined the Danube and took some photos. NB the Napoleonic memorial thingy which is memorial to those who perished in the Napoleonic wars. Great view of it last night but terrible photo
But that was 4.50 to enter and we made a sober decision to pass as livers don't seem that expensive.
We are still sober at this point.
Then we get to the town that begins with an A. It is lovely
Loads of beer gardens and lovely town centre.
But why we headed to here was one particular beer garden with a burg. It was a hideous sight and right up.our street.
Time was on our side so I forked out for lunch but they wanted a deposit on the plates and beer glasses but 6 euros each for a bratwurst salad seemed reasonable.
You get some money back off the pfand or deposit system
But then it rained (it really rained hard)as we were heading to another brewery beer garden. And boy did it rain. We were about to leave when we were ushered inside for own safety. So it felt rude not to get a couple beers in so we did.
We left, still copus mentis and just followed this group who we thought were on a similar beer garden crawl and we're successful in missing the branches that were blown off in the storm.
No idea what the last photo is but I bet it is good.just remembered a boat lift across the danube
Then we got to walternburg brewery. A monastery which is in dispute as to being the oldest brewery monastery in the world, but for the sake of this journal it IS the oldest.
AND what's more they have won international beer of the year award 3 times.
Guess what. We maybe had a couple of them.and perhaps tried a lighter one (because we can,) and we might have tried some cake)
Wr
We might have bought some whiskey as well.
We are now ready to board our boat back to Kelheim having paid 29 euros for the one way trip with bikes through the Danube narrows or gorges.
Guess what. They sold beer on board and it seemed rude not to.
ll
Luckily enough we recognised where we were thrown off and made it back to Basecamp.
Would I recommend it? Dam right. Thrown out the budget out with the baby but really good fun.
Ought to.mention the first beer garden we didn't go up the berg mainly because everyone was hiding from the thunderstorm but you would need to check ticket purchase as people were paying for beer with a ticket which may be some all inclusive thingy
And a couple from last night in Kelheim
