We stay at the Lavender Farm up above St Croix and it is a FP for which you will need the current book and card as they always check, been here 3 times now because you enter (after booking in at the reception) via their controlled gate and park up in their truffle orchard with loads of space. We buy the lavender spray oil on from here and a bit of honey. We have stayed 2 nights on each occasions and seen people stay longer. If you cycle to the lake it is downhill but electric would be of benefit on the way back.
We set off to do the route des cretes on a not so good day on our trusty 110 cc suzuki address with a full tank of petrol (possibly 5 litres) and travelled directly there and went up the north side of the gorge then onto the route des cretes but we went the wrong way so turned round after about 10 miles and went the right way. We could have got away with it as only a small bit is one way but make sure you are going the right way. Possible to do in a van. Numerous Belverderes or viewing points of the 1,000 + foot drop and the 1 foot high barriers preventing you going over would be useless but are reassuring ! We came back on the South side turning round to go through Trigance and back to the lake and got within 200 m of the lavender farm before running out of petrol. Luckily the Suzuki is light and I now carry a litre container of spare petrol
Before we got there we met all those babies and parked in the middle of them as they were doing a photo shoot for a German car magazine.
The truffle orchard and view from Bauduen on this lot as well
