When we did our 12 days excursion, I found most of the places on this journal over the cold winter months searching the internet for the unusual and came across this blue beer which is made from Algae. Well that is right up my street.
Roubaix, unfortunately, is not a town that is anywhere near a list of ours in a positive manner, apart from the brewery.
When we tried going the first time we got into Roubaix, and found the shop was closed, so much for internet research ! So we returned this year from the same place which is the canal du maison aire, a free aire in car park format with no facilities and plenty of space and easy striking distance to the ferry ports. With a name like that it is fairly obvious that it also has a cafe/bar/restaurant which we may have frequented and may have even partaken in their meat platter for 12 euros to help the beer go down and its not often you will see me write about having purchased a meal (ish) out especially when our van is 80 metres away.
So the brewery is basically an open trendy sit on pallets type place in a very relaxed atmosphere but looks from the outside to be a shop front.
We ordered up a couple of blue beers at 4 euros a piece (33cl) and settled down and, to a certain shocked, it was all right. A pale ale taste.
What I hadnt reckoned on or found out about was the red beer. So we got one of those and that was a good decision to only purchase the one ! Not so good, but may be to others' taste.
We purchased 3 beers to take away at 3 euros each (same beer at 4 euros in brewery) and found that you can buy the beer in other outlets locally as well.
One was FiL and one for one of my staff and he gulped his and stuck an order in if we go again (which we will)
