Motorhome fire extinguisher ban!!!!!

Having accidentally knocked my fire extinguisher off its bracket and smashed the trigger assembly O thought I'd better find out a replacement.

That's when it all went well wrong as I read that the recommended AFFF foam fire extinguisher was banned with effect from 4 July 2025.
Had anybody else seen this or can anyone recommend a suitable replacement?

In my early working life I worked for Angus Fire Armour, as part of our sales training we handled every product, using most , even outside the mess made by the powder extinguishers amazed me

I am now a fire blanket only person, no mess, no risk of wrong stuff on wrong fire and almost impossible not to go off when wanted

Leave any real fire to the experts

But if it's say a small electrical fire, then why let your van burn to the ground in the time it takes for the real experts to get to you, if it's easy to put out with a Fire Safety Stick ?

I still have a BCF extinguisher in the garage. Must be a good few years old now, would be interesting to see if it still works. Good job its not the only option.

Does anyone have any real life experiance of using a firestick, other than sponsored by Fire Stick themselves?
Google doesnt seem to show any proper reviews, other than ones that Firestick have got involved with.

I wouldn't let it off if there's any chance of being caught, as they are illegal except in certain circumstances.

If we have a fire & its the only thing to hand at teh time, it'll get used ( if it actually works).

Actually inhaling the Powder isn't going to kill you, but it may stop you from breathing as it goes up your nose, in your mouth and in your eyes...not a good state to be in whilst trying to control a Fire situation..

Co2 is brilliant in the right hands in the right situation...Not at all suitable for Pan Fires as the discharge is going to blast the burning fat all over the kitchen and possibly the operator..great way to spread a Fire... as Co2 will not support life, you may put yourself in a difficult situation...For electrical and car engine compartment Fires...very good.

A mention about BCF...now a banned substance, but as a Fire Extinguisher my always go too..causes no material damage..other that the Ozone layer..

Fire Blanket puts a fire retardant shield between you and a burning Pan Fire..its smothering effect is enough to control a fire.. correct method of use is an important factor..but remember that the fire may have been entinguished,but it hasn't been cooled...
Another use of a Fire blanket if the size is big enough is to use in unfortunate situations where a person's clothing has caught fire...bringing them to the ground and use the blanket to roll them in..this also protects you from receiving burns to your own body...mainly your hands..🤔

It would seem that the Fire stick certainly has a lot of support from funsters, and i fully agree with all those who mentioned the troubles with powder, BCF, and CO2 extinguishers. After reviewing 22 years of annual fire safety training in the RAF, ( and a short period in the late 70s riding a green goddess during the firemens strike0; I now realise why I think i'll follow my gut instincts and use the blanket and exit stage left rapidly tactic.

Why has your Fire Safety Stick not got the yellow cable tie on it at the cap?
Have you, or are you supposed to, remove it before locating it?
Mine is still on, as per the instructions that came with it.
Or am I mis- interpreting the instructions?

The Fire stick is far more versatile than the blanket as it cans be discharged into ducting, under vehicle wheels, engine compartments etc, where it gets drawn into the combustion.

Yes, but not 50% cheaper, nor 50% smaller. The 100 second version is not large to start with.

I don't want to dispute anyone's preferences or start a fire extinguisher war becaure I know there'll be a lot of opposition from FireStick fans but it seems to me they have two big disadvantages, the biggest one being that you have to strike them 'like a match' to activate but also have you seen the price compared to these:
(this is the Screwfix listing, on Amazon they are £20 for one or £45 for two - yes weird - but there's also a video so look & wonder yourselves)

1 year guarantee as opposed to 15 years for Fire Stick = similar cost
Fire stick can be bought and left maintenance free for 15 years
Can be ‘fired up’ and left in the room while you vacate
Leaves absolutely no residue or mess

Just four reasons why it’s my preference 😊

Maybe sponsored by Firestick but enabled by someone who has never previously handled a firestick, therefore giving a good, unbiased demonstration.

However, it is personal choice to not use one based on that criteria.

From practical experience, I must say that whilst those are extinguishers, they will be next to useless due to their extremely limited capacity (200ml). Most vehicle fires have restricted access to tackle them, and increasing access inevitably means more air and risk to the person tackling the fire. 2kg dry powder, or 2L AFFF/Firexo would, in my opinion be a minimum. That’s one reason why I purchased the 100 second Fire Stick; bigger capacity, ability to start discharge and allow that to be drawn into the fire, no annual service, no compaction of powder due to vibration (on vehicles they need to be shaken/inverted at least ever 6 months), and a 15 year service life.

Having no experience of using Fire safety Stick, I've distanced myself from making comments on these items...if I had the opportunity to test one myself, I could make a suitable assessment and compare with extinguishers or other Firefighting Equipment I'm familiar with.
Like everything in life, we all buy items for our MH but to be perfectly honest, have not much idea how it works, it's limitations, your limitations, but it's there to give piece of mind...
When buying Fire fighting equipment it's a good idea to know what type of Fire you might experience in your MH...A pan Fire, Electrical, Engine Compartment, outside BBQ, where the fire has originated, access may be an issue...if it's something you can see you may be able to contain it, if it's something hidden, perhaps you cannot.
