Having accidentally knocked my fire extinguisher off its bracket and smashed the trigger assembly O thought I'd better find out a replacement.

That's when it all went well wrong as I read that the recommended AFFF foam fire extinguisher was banned with effect from 4 July 2025.
Had anybody else seen this or can anyone recommend a suitable replacement?

As recommended by many on here. There may also be a Funsters discount 👍

From the link, it doesn't seem to be a problem

"Foam extinguishers that contain AFFF foam, and which are in circulation today, are manufactured using C6 fluoro surfactants. That is to say, they do not contain PFOA or PFOS and are not therefore impacted by this ban"

The thread which mentioned the discount can be found [url-https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/fire-safety-stick-with-fun-discount-no-mess-15-year-life-fire-extinguisher.308067/]here[/url].

I don't know if it's still current but it's a starting point.

I'm seriously considering them.

If you already have one of those ‘foam’ extinguishers, you might as well continue to ‘use’ it.
The banned substances are already present and will escape into the environment somehow anyway

Unless of course anyone knows where to take them to be safely defused.

I have 2 powder extinguishers, one by drivers’s door one by cooker, one fire safety stick and one fire blanket. To be used ideally never but blanket first if possible having had to deal with the after effects of a powder one.

Yes, bought a couple two weeks ago for our new car (It's an EV, you know what it's like, they are always catching fire :ROFLMAO: ) and used the Fun discount code. (y)
We also have a couple on our van.

We have the fire sticks, one in camper, 1 in each house. Now you’ve reminded me I’ll buy my daughter one for her new house.

Thanks people, I don't feel quite so startled by missing the demise of the foam extinguishers.
My wallet likes the concept of buying a newer foam extinguisher and having at least 5 years of piece of mind.
My head likes the Fire Stick solution for its technical simplicity.
What I will probably end up doing is getting a fire blanket and and ensuring a safe and rapid exit strategy should a fire occur.I

Many thanks for all the replies and I will continue thinking about all the options being offered.

Just bought 2 of the 100 minute fire sticks. Used the forum discount.

Surprised how small and light they are. They look simple to use and of course good for 15 years. They look almost impossible to accidentally set off too.

Put one in the MH and carry one in the back of the car. Another attraction is that you can set it off and leave it in the fire area to do its stuff as you make an exit. Lots of videos on it.

You might find the Discharge time is 100 Seconds not Minutes I'm afraid...

Agreed-measured in seconds, which is long enough to combat a fire and get out before it runs out of “smoke”

Is this link cheaper than the funster discount?

I have two of these. Hopefully they will reside in the Han area for 15 years, at which point I will test on putting out garden chimnea.

Most folk have little or no experience in using a Fire extinguisher until the time comes to use one in anger.
Therefore if you have an out of date one, that you don't want to keep...
Give it a go in a suitable area..just to see how they work and how you could use one in a real fire situation.....🤨

My Contrôle Technique (MoT in France) report Said “fire extinguisher not of approved type”, but no idea why not or what the currently approved type here is …l. Obviously,I’m am searching for a new one as I know they go out of date, but tgere seems to be a dearth of information here, all I am getting when I ask are the well known Gallic Shrugs…… 🤷‍♂️. That is one emoji I have never used before, but it seems so apt !

I have a powder extinguisher in the van but bought one of these in case of a fire involving the lithium battery or electrical items. Fits in the glove box and easy to use.

Ironically, the method of disposal for the banned ones (F8’s) is to burn the foam……

Powder fire extinguishers are the devil's work the powder goes everywhere. My preferred option is CO2, as the clean up after is not as bad, but not really suitable for enclosed spaces such as motorhome

No ... £93 for the 100 second version including funster discount (which is less than 15% incidentally) £105.40 for Carnoisseur. You do get a "free safety hammer," which isn't much use in the average moho.

Is the 50 second version cheaper?

This might help clarify the situation.
