Looks like they may be doing away with the cards...

From March onwards, the application will provide you with a personal code to enter directly via the keypad at the kiosk. Faster, simpler, no more searching. (for the card).

Do you have a link to this info it would be useful to see I personally like the card as it can be pre loaded so you don’t have to mess around when at the barrier.😊

already downloaded the app... looks good tells you your balance and there is an account/card number which i assume is the number you key into the pad

Had an email from them.

It seems to say for applications from March ?
What about existing card holders, do we get the four digit code or carry on using the card.
Never had a problem losing the card but I guess some do 🤷‍♂️

Probabaly just a money saving event, no more cards to print out.

It looks like they are phasing in the code.
Email indi ates they are doing us a favour by not having to search around for a card but use the app based code.

Would prefer just to swipe the card than have to lean out ,or get out, and start typing in numbers, which I will have to look up on my phone first!
Seems a backward step, hope they decide to keep the old method and just add this new method.

The email we received an hour ago is not clear whether they are doing away with the cards……so maybe code and card will work

Let's hope that Ascii don't follow. You'll have one code for discount sites, another code for discount sites that don't accept discounts in summer, another code for discount sites in the app but not in the book, a different code for sites booked in advance from the app, etc etc etc

I can't see any benefit to this. In addition to having to top up your account via the app (at the moment I do it via my account on the website, which suits me just fine) we'll need to memorise yet another 4 digit code. I plan to just ignore it and carry on with the card unless they withdraw that option altogether.

I’ve not had the email but I’m not sure how this will work in practice. I was aware that they now didn’t send cards out to new subscribers but instead sent them a code which would then issue a card at a CCP site once the card was entered. Apart from opening the barrier, I noticed last year that a number of the CCP sites also required the card to access the water, and when filling a tank, the card needed to be presented numerous times. It would be a right pain if the code had to be entered each time.

Cheers

Trevor

But they have gone digital.

Your membership card is on the app with the authorisation code on it.

Think this is the second year for it. Very handy especially if away in Spain over the new year. The app just updates whereas before you were knackered without the new year card. If you had left home before it was received on the post.

I have updated the app and I assume it is the 9 digit card number we all have. No real problem, however, as a solo driver I found it easy to lean out the passenger window and tap the card, may have to shuffle over and be a bit more careful entering a 9 digit code. Change is perpetual, no idea if this is good or bad, it’s just what it is.

The app isn't updated yet! They will be changing it in March.

I like the card. Most times with any type of card it’s just a swipe thing, seems a step back going back to pressing numbers in.

I’m presuming most that use these stops have the app on the phone so surely something in the app so you’ll just scan your phone over instead. Most of us I guess have our phones to hand but agree we normally have to search for the card each time.

So many times my card hasn’t worked. When on the phone to them they give you a code to put in and let’s the barrier up. This will no doubt do away with those phone calls and let you straight in.

I checked with CCP regarding retaining the current card tap on keypad access method and this is their reply:

"Hello, thanks for your message! you did understand everything perfectly. The card will still function perfectly! The code will be a + solution, in case you forgot your card or for some reason it doesn't want to work correctly. The reason behind the app update, is to give you further solution and to avoid letting you wait infront of an area."

Thanks for this info, it makes the idea more attractive. Assuming we keep the same personal code I'll just write the code on my card for use if the card doesn't work.

I assume the app will generate a one time code to your phone when you book in to open the barrier.

Very helpful thanks. I joined last year and loaded 25 euros on my "Card ". I was expecting to have to get my Card from the Machine the first time we used the Aire etc. Just logged into my App and its updated itself with the entry code and shows my balance. Much easier than the physical Card! (y)(y)
