Motorhoming since 2011 - now returning after a long break!
469402913_10162640215589402_8314593914178506548_n.webp

been left on someone's access for 4 weeks.... anybody got a clue? (It is Taxed and MoT apparently) Police and Local Authority not interested.

If it's on your land, you have every right to break into it and release the hand brake so it can be pushed or dragged out of the way. I would. You have informed the police so if they won't do anything, then it's up to you.

P.S. If the owner turns up - you don't know anything about it.
I’m not a lawyer but I really don’t think this is the case. I don’t think you have any right to break in regardless where it is parked.

if the police aren’t interested, then it’s not stolen or reported missing..

it’s all road legal..

does it look to be in good condition externally ?
If so, then I’d be concerned that it’s someone’s very much loved vehicle and for some reason, they are incapacitated in some way, health wise, in hospital or maybe even deceased..

or could they be staying with someone nearby and not realising that they are causing angst by having parked it safely where it is.

would it be worth trying local radio to see if anyone comes forward?

Tell the police it’s been posting offensive comments on line ,they should turn up in about twenty minutes 🙃
indeed, and if you can work the word suicidal in there, it'll be gone before you put the phone down..

If the vehicle is in rustington that will be Arun district council. Go on their website and search abandoned vehicles, a link will take you to Operation Crackdown. Report it. I've done this recently when an old caravan appeared in our road and didn't move. An enforcement officer served a notice on it , clearly displayed. If after a certain time it was not moved it would be removed for them. The owner quickly removed it!

It may well be a FLT who has nipped in to Southampton for a cruise, unless this is actually blocking access rather than parked up on the side of the ‘access road’ what’s the issue here. There are many posts to say how people park ‘out of the way’ so this may be a total non issue just a local objecting to a MoHo discreetly parking…..

The OP copied from somewhere is hardly clear and noticeably devoid of facts. If the police and council are not interested then one assumes that it is not on public property or a highway, road or pavement etc. So its probably a case of trespass.

Either consult a solicitor or take the law into your own hands and get a tractor or something to drag it out of the way!

That's not recommended, because it is both arguably a civil tort (unlawful interference with goods) that can lead to a claim for damages, and clamping or removing a vehicle trespassing on private land is now a criminal offence under the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. You can blame the LibDems (part of the coalition government after 2010) for that Orwellian-named Act of Parliament, as well as the campaign by a certain newspaper to make cowboy clamping on private land illegal. Replacing that by a ticketing right.

I’ve heard stories of people parking in other peoples driveways and then leaving to fly away on holiday to get free parking presumably relying on this legislation.

Once again the law is found to be an ass!

So have we - but neither of us would have the bottle to 'just turn up and drive the vehicle away' again!

If the vehicle is on private land, they're stumped. At my block of flats, we've had a car dumped in our private car park for over five years now. Nobody wants to know. The number plates are missing and can't make it the VIN. it's so damned frustrating 😡
Yet when we temporarily parked our m/h there, somebody reported it as abandoned, and we got notices about it

Bit off topic, but we had a van parked on a layby in our village (we often do, sometimes workers visiting the area on a contract, sometimes people passing through). One year a particular van didn't move or look like it was being used. Turned out the owner had died in the van. Very sad.

That is quite a sad tale.

I recall my wife had recently attended a first aid course, as she was walking along the pavement in the City of London there was a guy slumped across from the driver to the passenger side, she thought he may have passed out and her recently acquired First Aid may be helpful, so as she knocked on the door, the guy sat up and she realised at that moment he was reading a map that was spread on the passenger seat and on to the door well.....no first aid required but you never know.

It was actually a tongue in cheek comment but how many times have we had posts about someone with an Irish accent trying to steal motorhomes?
So no. Not inappropriate.
This would have been off-topic but it would also be off-topic to ignore..
If the person's accent (or any other characteristic) is a vital part part of the story it's vital but if it's not then mentioning it in a negative context strays into displaying prejudice which is hurtful to (in this example) the Irish person and all other Irish peopde so prejudicial to harmonious relatnonships.
And if one witnesses racism or sexism or anything a little less awful but doesn't, as they say nowadays, call it out then you are complicit in perpetuating prejudice.
And the Greg Wallace defense is clearly counterproductive.
Sorry.

I perfectly understand what you have written, but i am not clear what you are suggesting by stating it!

Are you suggesting that all the 5,000 views of this thread "except you" are in some way complicit in prejudice.

If you check the post your complaining about it did have an emoji on the end with a wink. Indicating it was posted with a humerous intent. I am sure the majority of readers saw it for what it was, a joke. But it would seem that some don't see the humour in anything and invoke the woke attitude. My sympathies.

I get all sorts of prejudices, discrimination and piss taken out of me because I’m disabled in a wheelchair with no legs… but I suppose I have to take it because I take the piss out of the Irish Scottish Welsh English northerners southerner’s and all sorts, and guess what most of them are very good friends that I haven’t actually met..🤪

I’m pretty sure that if there was blatant or a real suggestion of wrong doing here then it would be jumped on…

This forum is after all mortorhomeFUN….😎

Edit: and dare I say it… good old fashioned fun..

Just a thought is this abandoned motorhome in the same county as the one Jim has had an email about. Or am I barking up the wrong tree ?
