Learn to crochet?

@Lisa If you can go on the norfolk knitters and stitchers site you will find instructions for a knitted poppy. There must be a way of doing a link but I don't know how. The instructions are for 4ply or double knit.

I think I will be focusing on a simpler pattern if I'm to produce dozens of poppies (that is when I've finished my current project!!!!)
I’ll have a look, thanks (y)

Can anyone point Lisa to a Knitting pattern for poppies please?

@snailtrailer @Puddleduck @Jenben

This is the basic pattern I used:

https://sigbi.org/grange-over-sands/programme-action-2/knitting-for-charities/

after I had made a few I started to alter the pattern but you will soon see your own variations. I didn't bother with the leaf :)

EDIT: I did make my usual donation to the Lady Haig Poppy Factory when I made poppies :)

I also found these patterns......

You have to make an account to download this one:

If you run down to the bottom pattern on the Norfolk site they are there

Just got in I’ve got my wool to start my throw YAY!!!
Also been to Max’s sisters who took me to see one of their neighbours who have a holiday cottage business and she is just learning to crochet as well so we exchanged our little bit of knowledge with each other.
She has also given me 2 huge balls of red wool to make poppies with:)
So I can now make some more Joy @movan :) on the right is the wool I’m going to start my throw with

And I've been to charity shop and got some more red wool ... and also bought some red and purple for the poppies and got some buttons now to finish off the ones I've done. I havn't got enough me to go round.

Thank you @Hollyberry ;)

Oh I bought 3 shades of wool to start on @Janine's flower blanket/scarf .. think may need another colour and I only bought cheap wool so bit worried.

So excited. I am learning to crochet with my toes so we can reach our target.

@SueTayBon well done ... :) .. you just add .. I mean minus them whenever you ready.

Little grandaughter poorly so may need break from crocheting for little bit but think I so hooked now that I will do an hour in the middle of the night.

@enery8 Sue. How are you getting on love?

Hope your granddaughter is soon feeling better Joy
When I was in the Llandeilo wool shop the lady told me she has a knit and natter group on a Tuesday afternoon which also includes crocheting
I may give it a go one week when I’m not busy.

@davanne @movan This all sounds so positive. I hope you are enjoying your new hobby and that it continues to give pleasure. From my point of view it's good to have this ongoing project and a small challenge of trying to make four squares a day.

Spent this evening putting the black centres in ... the pink heart is special .. for the lady funster who died and all the troubled people in the world.

They look a bit weird on the photo but that's because some of them are double blossom and difficult to photo with the rest.

Pam I am really enjoying it thank you for getting us started:)
Afraid I haven’t done any poppies today Joy as was out until just after 4
But since early evening I have managed to make four squares for my throw.I'm going to edge them in plain colour I was told today where I can get great big balls of wool for a really good price so will go for it on Friday when I go for physio
I have the red wool now so tomorrow will make a few more poppies.

Those of you going to Chester, I will have some bla k buttons with me for those of you making poppies. :)

@Lisa and @DavidG58 Bev ... do you want some?

Lisa .. I bought some lovely purple wool yesterday for the horse poppies as I call them and Pauline has put some nice purply buttons in with others. :)

Joy they are all beautiful- we’ll done you xx

I went to get red and black yarn for poppies today and both red and black were sold out :(

I did manage to get more of my Wendy Aran for my Afghan - 7 squares of that now complete, that will be a long on-going evening and/or travelling project. The frame I had does a really good job of blocking so I am pleased I didn't throw it out.

I'm still not sure if I will leave the squares I have done as the 12 rounds or if I will add the next stage of the Elements pattern. Perhaps I should try one and see if I like it, I can always undo after all! The French Navy and Cream are nice but I wonder if they are a bit stark and I should introduce a different blue if I do extend the squares. No need to make a decision at the moment though.

Guess who has just bought a pom pom maker:).

@Hils and Glenns

Last total

======

But think may soon be going down by 20 ;)
Joy I haven't got a pompom maker.:( I wish I had. I just wrap the wool round my hand but it makes uneven pompoms.
Thinking of getting one before next Christmas when I'm expecting to be in wreath making mode again.:D

Hahahaha I didn't mean you .. I meant ME .... I 'called on' you because I wanted you to ... or to give me permission to .. deduct your 20 poppies from our total still needed. :) :)

This is a teddy .. my first attempt at felting from a few years ago and sadly pulled and throttled by my two year old grandaughter who loves him to bits.

I thought, I could easily make poppies by felting but pricing the wool again today it was just toooooooo expensive.

@Puddleduck and all are poppies made of other than wool accepted?

Minus another 2 (two) I did today =

===== still required before end of October to reach our target ...

Gosh this thread took some hunting down :D I saw a post about how many poppies you needed, then yesterday one of the ladies I work with asked another lady if she still wanted warm things for homeless people as she's bored and looking for stuff to knit. I mentioned poppies to her and she's interested except I didn't have much information for her other than you need thousands :eek:

She doesn't do the Internet but is there a handy link/post for me so I can tell her what you need?

First proper crochet project finished, pleased to have achieved it but not sure if I like it. Hopefully once it’s ironed and tidied up it will grow on me :)

3 more poppies done so 49,743 to go.
