Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
I did this well over a year ago, I find 11 to be smoother & rarely ever crashes like 10 was inclined to do.

I don't recollect ever having Win 10 crash. Odd applications freeze on occasions, but they have been doing that since 3.1.

Ever since lighting was by Calor gas.
As a freelance journalist I use a whole variety of the programmes provided in W10 every day on my laptop.
It all works perfectly fine with no reason to change so I'm sticking with it.

Tried W11 but didn't like the changes it made up front so went back to W10. Just personal preference.

Windows 10 officially reaches end of support on the 14th October 2025. After that date major organisations can negotiate extended support with Microsoft (at a cost) but normally private users would be advised to migrate to windows 11 (or a newer version if one exists) by then. The logic being the later versions will have ongoing security patches.

If you have a risk averse approach to life then there is no issue with staying on windows 10 until 2025. I have a bad habit of migrating fairly soon after a new version comes out and have been doing so since the MS-DOS and Windows 3 days.

Early migrators run the risk of being impacted by errors in the new software and also it is worth checking carefully that you have the right hardware to support the new version of windows. One thing that is mandatory in windows 11 to get ongoing support is the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) which is normally a feature of the motherboard. There is a utility available from microsoft (Windows PC Health Check) that you can download and run on windows 10. This will tell you if windows 11 will install ok and flag any possible hardware issues it spots - examples are cameras / TV cards / printers etc

In summary, windows 11 will last longer, have ongoing security patches and will support newer hardware connected to the PC
Windows 10 has had more time to have bugs removed and supports older hardware

I switched to Windows 11 on my MS Surface tablet. It came with W10 but I let it upgrade itself. There are a few difference but I quickly got used to them. I would recommend changing, if only because you will probably have to at some point.

many many years! since I was a kid
I prefer the speed, power management and ongoing updates of window$ 11. Far less issues with apps hogging memory that caused crashes. I often go months without having to restart these days. It just works when needed

Strange that Microsoft kept telling me My Laptop was not able to accept Win 11 for a long time, then all of a sudden they were telling me that my laptop had sufficient processor speed/space, and I could "Upgrade" to Win 11 if I wished.
I asked the question on what was so much improved about Win 11 and was told "Not a Lot" other than some navigation tabs changing.
I decided to stick with Win 10 to give Microsoft more time to eliminate any early bugs/problems with their newer 11 version.
I was advised that that decision was probably the correct thing to do for now, so I am happy to stick with Win 10.
I have 16GB Ram, and an Intel 5 & 2,7GHZ Quad processor, with enough space on the hard drive, so no rush to move just now.
But happy to take any advice from those that know better.

One day I must update this Windows 5 PC to either 10 or 11.

Probably need a new mother board as well.

Windows 5 otherwise known as XP.

Personally, I prefer the operating system which Space X will be taking to Mars.

For my 2 pence, the average person would be perfectly fine with a Chromebook. We have over 1k of them at work, they're cheap, batteries last 10+ hours, can be 2-in-1, zero reported ransomwarw attacks ever, etc. Perfect for QVC and banking.
If you need Windows for specific apps, the only reason to not use W11 is because you don't like change.

My laptop won't run Win 11 so need to stick with Win 10 which is not as good as Win 7 or XP for my most used software.
I still can't help but see a grumpy old man on the Win10 login screen either šŸ˜‚

I swapped from an old laptop running XP to an Apple MacBook Pro about ten years ago now. Haven't had a fraction of the grief and housekeeping that came with Windoze.
