You will use around 26 amps at 12 volt d.c. to produce 1 amp at 240 volt a.c. 1000 watt kettle will use near enough 110 amps. Make sure your batteries and cables are up to it. Also what you take out has to be put back. You probably will use slightly less power but it is better to over estimate use than under. You have to allow for voltage drop and inverter inefficiency.

It depends entirely on the wattage of the kettle.

Kettles can be had with elements ranging from about 500W to 3000W.

You ought to be looking for a kettle of around 1.5kW (as rare as hens teeth).

We have a 1.7kW kettle that we manage to run, just, off a 6A site supply. To run that via an inverter would require a 2000W inverter and would draw some 170A from the batteries.

Thanks for the replies.

It’s not for me, I’m getting messages relayed to myself via a friend.

We have an 800 watt one when using from the inverter it takes 70 amps at 12v.
We do the same. Very rarely use the gas kettle any more. It frees up so much space because we dont have the hob open waiting for it to cool down, and is really useful on travelling days.

The only downside is it takes longer when we have guests because onlĂ˝ does 2 x mugs at a time.

They're not that hard to find although quality varies.

A Woosh bang
we have no 240v kitchen appliances.. no need ..

and life is too short waiting for a low wattage kettle.. on gas it boils in a few mins

life is much simpler on gas..and more efficient

We use a 1000watt Royal stainless steel kettle, we have 560 amps of Lithium with a 1800watt Waeco inverter now Dometic.
I even run a connection into our utility room at home and we use it almost every day now multiple times with other appliances too!
Makes enough for 4 mugs.

I think many people have forgotten that basically motorhoming is camping. We have 1500w kettle that doesn't ever get loaded into the van. Always use the gas. That is a flatter kettle so sits on the floor when travelling and you don't have to find somewhere to keep the lead. Horses for courses though.

Must be a normal "low wattage" house kettle though as ours at 2200 watts pulls close to 200 amps.
