I have done the usual googling and none of them mention stalling so wondering if any mechanically minded could advise please?

Driving away and it stuttered and flashed a message regarding injectors but it didn't stay on the screen long.

I then pulled out the drive and it stalled after 100 meters with the injector error. I was thinking not again :(

Switched it off and left it 30 seconds. It started up again as per normal. Got the van back to the drive.

I checked the ODB2 code and saw P0380 was up. But this is about heater coil and that doesn't make any sense in todays temperatures?

There was a pending P0089 which is fuel pressure regulator. This seems like a more likely candidate BUT.

Once I had written the codes down I reset to confirm. I wanted to see if the P0380 was an old code. I then drove it to the gate and reversed it back up.
Checked the codes again and P0380 was pending but not active and the P0089 code is nowhere to be seen.

Any suggestions welcome, ask any questions if I have missed any information?

I was just having a think and I suspect the P0089 code is misleading. I had a diesel heater fitted not too long ago and we broke into the Diesel feed lines. This is probably what caused the pending P0089.

So, I am left with the P0380 but still at a loss as to why a heater code could cause it to stall?

Just a quick update.

I dug my haynes manual out. Searched the internet and got a basic understanding of how the glow plug system works.

Changing the glow plugs is likely to be a £400 job on a Vivaro due to having to strip down great chunks of the engine bay to get to them. seriously crap.
It is not a job I want to do as there is a risk of breaking them in the cylinder head so I will leave that to the experts if it is needed.

BUT there is a controller/relay that is easily accessible and only costs £40. I thought it was worth a punt.

It arrived an hour ago. It was a bugger to get out and a bugger to refit. You have to pull the retaining clip a little then pull the device out a little and keep repeating this until it is out.
The reverse is true when reinstalling. you can't just push it all the way in then push the clip in. Took me 20 minutes to figure this out.

Anyway, each time I have taken the van out since last weekend I have reset the code after I got back. It consistently triggered every time I tried to start.

Today, I cleared the code then started it. No code. Repeated 3 times and the code hasn't returned.

I am not 100% convinced this has fixed it but my hopes have been raised a little bit.

If it fails again. I will be able to remove this relay/controller and test the glow plugs resistance and wire continuity to see if there is one that is faulty/damaged.
Now I know the pinouts it will save me stripping the engine down. Unfortunately if one is fault I won't know if it is wiring issue or a glow plug issue but at least I will have isolated the fault.

Anyway, I am a bit happier today.

In 2007 I thought I would treat myself to a new Vivaro 20 CDTI it was great for the first 2 years 20k miles but then was a pain in the arse at 50k had to have new injector’s fitted by a specialist who had the nessasary puller’s required as Vauxhall could not give me a cost and said they may have to remove the engine, I said your taking the piss and left.
A short time after the turbo gave up due to a small filter in a oil feed pipe total spend about 2.5k at 50,000 miles, what a piece of shit it was so at 5 years old I got rid.
Do your self a favour and get rid of it while it’s running🙂
The Vauxhall dealers even had the cheek to call me and see if I was interested in a new one🤣

I nearly bought a vivaro a couple of years ago till a mate in the trade talked me out of it. An expensive money pit as they age was a close match to what he said. Although many more swear words to his description.

Take a look online there are generally loads for sale in need of major work. Most have tidy bodywork but the engine has self destructed

When the Vivaro is running well, it's a pleasure to drive. Yes, I had the broken diesel plug issue. The local garage did a good cheap job on that, no way did they charge the true cost. They did it in their spare time. Then there was the sudden limp modes. Always seemed to happen coming home on the A303 near Stonehenge. Weird! Owning it was an experience! But when I sold it it had done 215000 miles, of which only 50k was mine, and I got a fair price for it. So all in all ... Not bad.

I did look at selling but have you seen what the second hand market for vans is like at the moment. Also what would I replace it with?
I won't touch a Ford or a Merc.

At least this one won't rust from under me.

SWB Vario - Will last forever and you'll love it (y)

Ah, the last line. It will suffer from rust, but not the chassis, so easy enough to fix.

I had a 2002 Vivaro Sportif bought it at around 18 months old.
Went like a rocket and drive like a car.
100 plus flat out empty (on private roads) 😉😊

Had it for ten plus years and not a bit of trouble and not a spot of rust.

Then the dreaded gearbox issue reared its head.
I traded it for a T5.1 that was my next mistake 🙄

Gromett have you drained the fuel filter housing as that can cause problems.

Change the fuel filter often as that will tell you if the fuel pump is falling apart.
It might save you from changing all the fuel lines, injectors etc.

After my last one got consigned to the scrap yard due to rust I looked around carefully for ones that didn't rust after 5 or 10 years.
Trafic and Vivaro Always seemed to be in very good nick around 10-12 years old.

I can deal with mechanical problems. What I don't want is after spending good money on converting is to lose it to rust.

Fuel filter got changed at last MOT. I do that every other MOT along with air filter, oil and oil filter. I am very low mileage so doing it ever year is pointless.

Don’t look at a Merc then, the bodies rust for fun 😳

Vivaro, Primestar and Traffic are virtually the same van.

What common issues does the Transit have?

Oh yes, I forgot that, I had the gearbox done too, £1700 I think. They also discovered the recon engine was from another version. It was the dog end of the market, I think I got off very lightly. And had great fun too. And it did look good.

I loved my van, in a way I wish I’d just done the gearbox as the van looked like it had just come out of the factory 😊

Years ago at work most vans were replaced about 70% were Japanese and 30% were mercs, they went to the senior engineers. 5 years down the line all the mercs had fallen apart and were gone, the Japanese vans all going strong.

Have you seen the price those things fetch and then I have to spend weeks welding them as well. Pass lol.

The transit videos are the old mk5, not a recent model with better rust protection. I have a 5 year old transit custom mk8 with not a spot of rust on it

I wouldn't expect a 5 year old van of any manufacturer to have rust on it. I look at the 8-12 year old ones to see who does a good job. look out for different vans of this age and you will see what I mean.
Fiat are not too bad these days. Merc still go fast once they start. Ford go downhill fast once it starts and I haven't seen an older Ford without rusted out steps, arches and sills.

I wouldn't buy any transit. They don't seem to survive regularly past 10 years without rust starting in a big way.

I know my Daughter wants to convert a van, read Dad will be doing it, so would be interested in what you choose.

Don’t the “dip” vehicle bodies any more 🤷‍♂️
