Le Shuttle, £264 inc of the £90 discount for Tesco club card voucher

Newhaven Dieppe quote .. £519 .. less 20% discount would be £415.20 ..

No brainer.. Le Shuttle booked

It didn't work out that way for me, but then I only had a measly £20 or so in vouchers. So the Dieppe ferry won out for a change. I do prefer the tunnel, but have been finding the M25 etc more troublesome lately, so I can avoid it.

No idea where you get that from as I have just done it online & got 111,50 out & 194,50 back & that is online meaning by phoning it will be cheaper + the over 60's discount has to come off also?

Isn’t the DFDS website playing up at the moment and throwing up some super expensive prices?

Only £90.60 one way Dieppe to Newhaven for the two of us at the end of June.

I’d have gone earlier or later in the day Newhaven/ Dieppe return and saved a packet of money………plus avoiding the potentially horrible Dart crossing.

could be.. it's a crap website at best... I was also surprised at the price

then when, or if you get it working you still have to phone to book to get the 20% discount then prove your age when checking in at the ferry terminal .. that is serious old school

more than happy with Le Shuttle, not as expensive as led to believe and our favourite way to cross .. 45 mins and your in France

Log into LeShuttle app, it has all our travel details..a few clicks, enter Tesco code, ticket issued and saved in Apple wallet.

When booking they ask if you are over 60 you say yes, end of, no further checks.

Would I get away with saying yes and not being? The passport doesn’t lie! 😉

Er in doors is nearer than me, but still a couple of clicks off herself… would make the route much more attractive with 20% off! 🤪

As a dfds account holder I would say that it is fantastically unbelievably worse than useless. On one occasion when I was struggling to add the dog to a booking I phoned & an agent went through it with me from start to finish. What she saw on the screen is not what the customer see's ?? for some reason they manage to have the 'old' as in 2014 version showing the original 3 sizes for motorhomes starting at a 2,35m roof height whereas the customer has not had that since 2014/15🤷‍♂️

Was the DFDS website designed by the Horizon software team? 🤣

My midweek return fare on Le Shuttle is £281. I also paid £51.56 extra for their single trip travel insurance which doesn't require any medical declarations. Less outlay than I had been led to expect.
Does the travel insurance cover all passengers for the trip.

re discount, it says on the website .. 🤷‍♂️
Passengers will need to be the lead passenger and present proof of age, student card or disability card at the port and the discount applies to the crossing only and does not include cabins or pets.

Been going that route often 2 or 3 times a year for 16 years never been asked

anyone irrespective of age, could phone and get a 20% discount..? seems unlikely.

or they have your details on file.. and no need to check ?

I think, just like le shuttle, you have to do your own passenger list after payment, which includes putting down your passport number.
Even with a Horizon made computer (if true) the check of the age of the booking passenger is done without asking any questions.

It depends on where you are going on the other side.

Given that you are in Suffolk and looking at Newhaven/Dieppe I presume western France or Spain.
But if it's Spain, then why not include ferries to Santander ?

If however you were going to eastern France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy and all point east, then you best route would be Harwich/Hoek of Holland overnight.
Not only is it about half a day faster door to door, it's also shorter, and if you stick to the German Autobahns you can save £ hundreds on the tolls.

We live at the end of the A2, Dover is under an hour away.
We go to the mainland a couple of times a year.
I've not used Dover or the tunnel in years (at least 8 years)
Unless you have two drivers and time is more important than cost and comfort there is no reason to use it.

Like Lenny, I've been using that crossing a couple of times a year (ever since girls did P.E. lessons in their vest and knickers in fact) and struggling with the dreadful website and the phone agent. Initially the guy said to change my previously already booked outward would be an extra £178 according to his booking screen but I referred him to their website price of £78 and ended up getting the crossing changed and a £13 refund!! See my posts today #31 and #34 in this thread:

Girls at one West London school used to omit the latter under their hockey kit. Happy days!! I might sometimes have stopped to watch 😁. Especially when my girlfriend was playing,💖.

I think we had a similar price for the 6pm sailing from Dieppe on the 23rd. It was slightly more expensive for the Saturday sailing
