Well pleased with the unit fitted yesterday, a really neat installation.

BUT, due to a spanglais issue (I presume) I've got the transparent lid whereas I wanted the translucent one.

Anyone with same stuck anything on the OUTSIDE of a transparent lid to reduce light transmission? If so, what ? Did it last ?

Not completely as it has little ventilation holes, I know what you mean about the clear lid though as we had one fitted yesterday and I think translucent would be better.

Halfords do bumper paint in spray cans. It is designed to go straight onto plastic. They do two shades: light or dark grey. I have used it a few times with excellent results.

You can get external film, example below:

The side that you want to be able to see through to needs to be at least 4:1 brighter than the room you don't want people to be able to see into. All reflective films work in this way there is no film that does not work in this way.

Greg Virgoe has a great Youtube channel about building vans. He has at least a couple specifically about maxfans, one showing all three different lid colours and their effect on light.

Maxfan lids

Clear = transparent
Smoked = almost the same as clear
White = Solid white but allows light around the edges so not really totally black out

You can but the roller blind cover (with/without lighting) or you can make a simple pad to pop in the hole, or buy a seat cushion from IKEA that does the same for about £8

Yes, I did. I chose not to believe it. If you have an unobstructed 40x40cm aperture for the free flow of air and then fill that aperture with a baffle how is that not going to affect throughput ?

There are several products available on amazon.es, but here in Spain anything I use has to be UV stabilised with glue that doesn't melt in t'sun. I'm looking for leved experience here, really ....

The picture is a bit of a scam. We have one fitted and the blind does help shade, but it's not a black out and you can not 1/2 close it like it shows in the picture. I would get some window tinting and put it on the inside of the cover or get some one to do it.

Be careful as most adhesive films, the glue reacts with the acrylic and causes crazing

Agreed. When the blind is closed, the airflow is almost zero.

I can concur with that, I have the smoked vent and from the inside it just looks clear….

Lived? Other thing I thought of was to make a panel to fit on the underside of the acrylic which due to the curve you should be able to make a tight fit and the 'bend' should ensure it stays put even if you are travelling with it in use ...

I thought the whole unit is only attached with 4 screws to the frame so easy to take off.
