One of the 3 castles I paid for and the first one we went to see.
We stayed at the south side of the lake in what appears on a map to be right next to the autobahn but neither of us recollect great noise. The site appeared to be run by a family and it was only 6 euros in 2018. It must have been good as we stayed 2 nights.
You get to the island by boat (fairly obvious) and I cant remember whether the boats were free or they came with the ticket or you had to pay, but you got the boat at a jetty and went over to another jetty where there was a bit of a town and then jumped on the boat to the island which offered you the ability to take a horse drawn carriage to the palace/castle or you could save your money and walk. No guesses required what we did.
Ludwing ii based this castle/palace on Versailles and to us this was the best internally but it was also the first one we visited so the information given is more or less the same as the other 2 later castles.
The location is on the Alpinestrabbe (or close to it) and we used that road to get to the other castles and it is a very nice ride on a motorbike or motorhome with views of AustroGermanic Alps on one side and the flats of Germany on the other from the undulating road and is 450 km long according to my notes.
There is a "Hall of Mirrors" mirroring Versailles which we expected to be rubbish but it wasnt, we have seen both and this is very good with less people. There is a monastary on the island
Probably going to find more photos in a different location on my computer later as cant believe I dont have a photo of the hall of mirrors which must be hidden somewhere safe. Photos of the lake are on here
Just found this one of the sunset from the aire
