Clervaux

Longest drive for a while (224 mile) on the longest day and one of the hottest.

We had visited many years ago and remembered it as having lots of bars, cafes and restaurants.
Campsite gets top reviews and has a nice pool. Angela and Ang and Paul wanted somewhere to chill for a week. Somewhere to sunbathe, somewhere to swim and somewhere to eat out.

We got there and got two pitches that were massive. We could easily have both got on one. We walked into the town and it was not the place we were thinking of. We had visited but only on bike and the other place we were thinking of was Vianden. Nevermind it was still very nice though not many places to eat or drink.

It does have a castle with a war museum, a large church and on the hill out of town an Abbey.

Chateau de Clervaux which has a couple of museums, one on the battle of the bulge and another photography exhibition. In the castle grounds was a Sherman tank but this has been sent away to be restored. The Bulge museum is a bit small, a far better option is the museum at Bastogne.

There is a monument to the Americans who helped save the place.

A big church for such a small place. More like a cathedral.

Up a steep hill from the campsite is an Abbey. Its quite new (1910) and is still a working Abbey, if thats the correct phrase. They have a little museum and they sell apple juice, which is also available in the campsite.

Lovely little site in a lovely little village with a lovely little pool. Campsite also has a table tennis room and a crazy golf. The toilet block is new and all the large pitches are segregated by bushes. Nice place to chill out before going home. The only problem is the lack of shops. There is a shopping center but it is at the top of the hill.
