We weren't originally going to stay here, but our day going round the lake, with the view, the bars, the beaches etc have seen us stay.
So good that we intend to move onto the next lake tomorrow.
This has nothing to do with rain being forecast all day the day after that !
The region of Bavaria we are in is Franconia.
From my limited German translation the lakes were created in about 1970 and their reasoning for creation was to transport water from the Danube to the Main to help heavily water using Nuremberg.
The lake we visit tomorrow (altmuhlsee) feeds the lake we are on now (Brombachsee) and the lake we were on yesterday morning (rothsee) feeds into the Main Donau Kanal but going north of the European watershed.
The amount of water Nuremberg receives is tripled by this process.
There are 250 different birds in the region and wetlands created for them, they also have fish lifts, a sort of Archimedes screw to get the salmon ? up river to spawn.
All activities you would expect of the lakes have been very well catered for including ice skating but we haven't seen that.
The area has been called the Bavarian lake District.
It has been astounding how few non German vans we have seen on this trip to date. A couple of Czechs, singular Swedish, Norwegian, polish, singular figured Dutch, maybe a Belgian, no British for a couple of weeks and having been round the lake and maybe 6 substantive stellpatzes there must be 300 + motorhomes here.
But this morning right beside the entrance to our stellplatz was a bare footed 1.9 km walk over various elements such as sawdust, bark, stone, glass etc with a few balancing beams, a mudwalk, a really cold river walk and it was free.
Bare (sic) in mind the roots, fir cones, stumps and the first half dozen have some big ants that like to bite but the good news is the freezing cold water walk comes soon after the bites.
Leave your shoes at the start and wash facilities provided at end.
Spalter barfußwonnen
Next to it is a high sort of go ape place but it has a slide that you dangle underneath on that takes you through the trees about 10 m high. Looks great fun, but 22 euros each meant I am writing about it without photos !
And finished off lake and canal spending time on beach.
And learning how to do a ß and adjusting journal
With thanks to corconx
