West coast France, Dordogne and back

Journal details

Intending to travel from around l'Orient down to as far as Ile de Re leaving on the overnight ferry from Newhaven on the night of 27th August.

In my signature you will find a couple of journals from this year, Bavaria and Languedoc, and some previous places I have added retrospectively under countries or cycling.

There is likely to be a theme of tight fistedness running through the thread/journal but normally loads of photos and I have, as usual, created a map for ease of reference for me to locate aires/CCPs/FPs/Beaux villages/places of interest/beaches of choice/campsites that we may or may not visit, but if they are on there, then we can decision make, plus I love a map !

The van is a 2 year old Roller Team 685 with a bit of skirting missing from under the gas cupboard and to view the incident it is in the languedoc journal under Millau. We have 370 watts of solar. 200 ah of lithium, LPG, Remis front blinds as the extras, but deliberately no awning. We have taken out the excessively large table and replaced it with a smaller one in the dining area. We will be carrying with us our trusty E bikes which we have had for 3 years and use regularly up to 80 k a day but that is unlikely on this holiday. We charge from our battery or abstract electricity from local spots on cycle routes but they have been difficult to locate on the internet but I dont see it as an issue. We will also take a couple of bodyboards for surfing as this is the West Coast. We have all the necessary extras, 2 corkscrews, reusable ice cubes and blocks, cold gel pillows, carafe, 12 volt pump, battery starter and numerous appropriate apps for camping car park, campercontact, Truma, Victron Ventusky, inet, mapy.cz lpg, adblue, Meta track, MHF and Temu !

We are Jon and Paula, 57 and 56, both relatively fit and were quite sporty in previous years. Paula is a lady of leisure and I work full time doing 12 hour shifts 2 days 2 nights 4 days off. But I get quite an amount of annual leave and Lieu days enabling this journey to be 29 1/2 days.

There will be an amount of wine being drunk, but generally start the evening off with leffe blond imitation from Lidls and finish it with Pastis. There is highly likely to be no "Guess how much the meal cost" posts as its normally fairly easy to see how much frozen paella is in Lidls.

Updates on the journal are likely to be early evening and usually a daily update, but dependant upon if we go somewhere during the day of note there may be a couple.

What the journal does is create an interactive map of your journey and adds to the "Continental Tours" map within the journal which has over 200 entries at present.

The map I have created is colour coded for paying non paying and there are wild swimming points on there from the "Wild Swimming in France" book edition 2 by Daniel Start which we use to identify swimming spots and wild camping and beauty spots. It is a sort of bible of inland France to us. So you will see blue lorries meaning we have the potential to stay overnight at a lake or waterfall. The cluster just South West of Clermont are the volcanoes we may visit on the way back up with Beaux villages.
