Favourite Kids books

One of my girls is 18 today and we were reminiscing this morning about the kids books I used to read them.We all loved one author in particular, we read everything he wrote many many times over.

He only wrote for kids but some of his writing really connected with me even though its mostly nonsense Below are some of my favourite quotes and book extracts from this guy. Do you know who it is

Think it was called we are going on a bear hunt.

I used to just make up stories when reading to her but she would ask for the same story and id change bits and she would give me into trouble.

You cant go over it, you cant go under it but you can go through it, a story that would surely get a childs attention, well it certainly got mine :thumb:

Oh yes Lucille - I'd forgotten all about Chicken Lickin!
Our kids loved that one - they loved The Three Billy Goats gruff too

I bought that one for our 3 year old grandson this summer and he loved it too!

I had to read a Eulogy at a child's funeral once and quote from this book because it was relevant.... I always think back now when I see it on the book shelves...

Just been thinking about Shadow the Sheepdog by Enid Blyton.

Read it every week up to age ten from about age five and NEVER got fed up of it.... almost knew it all by heart....

Did anyone else love the Famous Five books?

Still got them all Joy, Hodder and Stoughton hardbacks from the '50's and early '60's, bit dog eared now. All 14, I think, of Fatty and The Five Find Outers, some of the Secret Seven, all of the Adventure series with Jack, Philip, Dinah, Lucy Ann and Kiki the parrot which were my favourites involving hairy trips around the world. Younger stuff from Enid Blyton like The Magic Faraway Tree and Billy Bob Tails, oh, and Shadow The Sheepdog. I even came across my Famous Five fan club badge recently.

Plus nearly all the Biggles books and his commando pal Gimlet from Capt W E Johns.

Like the toys I hung into them for my boys but they were never into reading as I was. :Sad:

Eldest mentioned on Sat theyhad an unopened boxed set of the Famous Five they had bought for grandson .... he's 14 and 6ft tall now - fat chance!

Got me read most of the famous five books loved them all gave them all away to a young cousin all hard back and mint wish he still had them.

Joy don't think about it....as a boy I spent all my pocket money on Dinky and Corgi toys....I had a huge collection as I saved all my money and bought them.......When I left home my mum decided I didn't want them any more and gave them away......AHHHHH I must have had thousands of pounds worth lol.
