Your Beer of the week

So while in Spain for a few weeks I thought I would review a few beers. I should say I am not a fan of Spanish lager so rarely buy any.
First San Miguel (bo) Selecta. A toasted Marzenbier. 3 Malts and 3 hops. 6.2% and as you might expect is quite hoppy.
Marzenbier means March beer and was made to last over the summer when it was too hot to brew beer due to bacteria would thrive. This was before refrigeration. March beer had double the malt and more hops so is would survive better.

Voll Damm is copied from the German beer. Even the can has German style writing and is called "das original". About the same price as the Selecta just over a euro, I prefer the Voll Damm but there's not much in it.

This Doble Malta is a Mercadona copy of the Voll Damm. Same coloured can and the similar strength (7.4% compared to 7.2). I much prefer this beer as it is slightly sweeter with slightly less hops. It is also half the price at 53c.

Mahou Maestro Dunkel is the most expensive of the four. About 1.40euro. This is, as the name suggests,a German style beer with lovely dark malty taste with lots of chocolate and coffee flavour.
My favourite Spanish beer and the only one I bother taking home.

From the ones you mentioned, I agree (y)
Same here, though I don't get to sample it very often when I am over there. :(

Whilst on the subject of Spanish beers, when I was last at Camping Toro in Benicassim a few years ago, the site bar got a new draught been in, and I am positive it was Mahou Dunkel at around 5% ABV..............obviously not the bottled Maestra Dunkel above @ 6.2% ABV.
I can't find it now though. :(

I hate to tell him, but that's not a pint!
My thoughts exactly as soon as I saw it. :whatthe:
Though it shouldn't have been served as such, I think I'd be asking for it to be topped up. ;)

I remember my dear old Dad being served a pint of McEwan's Light with a large head on it. He said to the barman, " Excuse me pal, dae yae think you'd manage tae get a double whisky in there?" "Oh aye" says the barman enthusiastically." "Well in that case, can you top it up please?" An absolute classic.

Cheers. :drink:

Jock. ;)
