Your Beer of the week

Hi Guys you have got me interested in those Trappist Monk beers, they look like they could indeed be the best beers in the world, I would love to savour a couple slowly over a decent meal.
I have found a link to The Belgian Beer Company, see below, have any of you tried using them, or joined the Beer club? Looks like you get 30% off your 1st order, but you have to spend above a certain amount to get free delivery as per the norm I guess.
I have been going to our local Lidl & Aldi looking for the Octoberfest Beer packs but no luck so far, none in stock, might need to order on line to get one delivered to my local store.
See how many Belgian Beers you recognise in the link, I have tried a few, but loads more to dicover, which is always nice.
Cheers

I like the Grimbergen beers but I can only find them online and they are expensive.

Last night we had Neepsend Brewery’s double chocolate stout, Hedylogos. It was delicious!

Try Beers of Europe. I've visited them a couple of times when we've been down in Norfolk. They also do mail order.

Another day, another chocolate stout. Puns Of Anarchy Kelham island brewery

Just on my way back home from Spain and bought two cases of blonde 14 euro each (24x25cl). Prefer the dubbel but leclerc have none. Going to Carrefour tomorrow to see what they have.🍺

Have a look at Raynville Superstores in Leeds. a fantastic bottle shop in Leeds, they do delivery also.

Great range of world beers, plenty of Belgian and German beers

Just carrying out a test taste on these 3, glasses lined up ready...

Badgers Master Stoat (5%) or St Austell Mena Dhu Stout (4.5%) are 3 for 4, at £7 from Sainsbury's
The Coffee Stout (5.2%) is available from Aldi for £1.70. All are 500 ml.

Thanks! Are they nice?

Started off with 3 x small sample flights.
On first taste I didn't take to any of them, all quite thin and lacking body!
Then worked my way through them all (someone had to!) fully poured into larger glasses.
All much better in a larger glass.
Couldn't really smell or taste coffee in any of them.
The Badger and Aldi both have a lactose and oat smell and taste.
Best of the bunch for me was the Badger Master Stoat.

...second tasting tonight!
This time I've tried adding some dark rum to the stout!
Wish me luck...
Well, only tried it with 2 of the Stouts, the
St Austell Mena Dhu and the Coffee Stout from Aldi.
Both really improved in both mouth feel and taste.
Now really creamy and much more of an enjoyable drink.

Had a Pint of this at the weekend in Northern Monk Refectory, was a stunning pint, was lovely and smooth and felt a bit thicker than a standard Porter. Think you can get cans of this from Morrimogs. Their collaboration Stout with Tim Taylors 'Unity' is also a great drop.

Well I reckon it's great to have the beer in the right glass.
But chicken and egg.
Is it preferable to have the right (nice) beer rather than the the proper glass?
The beer obviously! but this little quandary has been concocted to enable me to boast that I have I just received a collection of very nice glasses from my friend in Belgium 🇧🇪
Just need to get the right beer.
Thanks to this forum I have a few pointers to source it in Leeds and Kings Lynn Thanks to Daveclare Shipping and TinaLes.
Cheers
Chris🍻

My local had this on draught last week.

As I was in there for a couple or more beers, I refrained from partaking of it. :xwink:

I didn't refrain from partaking of this next one though, when in Spoons yesterday. What a lovely pint it is too. :xThumb:

Cheers everyone. :drink:

Went to Spoons on Wednesday and tried a couple of Xmas beers. Rudgate Rudolphs Ruin and Milestones Prancer Dancer. The only way you know that they are Xmas beers is by the names. None of the "Xmas pudding "taste. Both were quite nice though decent strength (4.6 and 4.9) and very decent price (1.99).
I have a couple of kegs of Winter Leffe for Xmas. This used to be Leffe Noel which used to be Leffe brown with a hint of spice but the winter is slightly different.
Happy xmas

A couple of weeks ago, I had a pint of Greene King's Rocking Rudolph. For me it was tasteless and a waste of beer tokens. :xangry:
Re the Winter Leffe, I've not tried that yet. Colour wise, it looks very similar to their Ruby.

Enjoy. :xThumb:

I know I have mentioned it before, but I had a couple of pints of another favourite ale of mine yesterday. :xwink:

Winter Leffe is more like the brown than ruby. Prefer the brown but got the winter cheap tho.
Here is another daft strength Belgium beer. De Garre brew it in Bruges on the premises. Visited in June and bought a six pack. Had to get the glass from the bottle shop.

11% but doesn't taste it. If you like strong beer and are in Bruges it's well worth finding. They also had Golden dragon on draft.
