Wow just had my van weighed again

Thats interesting.. i might get mine done as it is a bit sluggish

Seems they can boost it to 160bhp

Just put my reg in and says sorry we cant remap this vehicle!
2001 fiat ducato 1905cc turbo diesel 5 speed manual RHD.
Too old perhaps?

Just taken out two 110 lead acid batteries, whuich after 13 years service are getting near replacement and replaing them with one Lithium battery - The old batteries have a combined weight of 60Kg and the new battery is 18.5Kg.

So, after a remap and maybe a few more BHP, where are you in a rush to get to?

Half the fun is in trundling along enjoying the view and the company of your travelling companions.
Think of the queue of vehicles behind you. Nothing wrong with driving slowly AS LONG AS YOU MOVE OVER and let other cars past. Every motor homer says that they do but I rarely ,if ever see it.

Re-maps are absolutely wonderful. Bravo. Nothing to do with peak power, it is rather more about ease of driving.

I hear you, but what if there is no road to move over into?

Driving convention in the Republic of Ireland before and in the first years of motorways there (mid.1990s) was that if your vehicle wasn't quick then you pulled over hard shoulder side and let others pass without sometimes even needing to cross the centre line or maybe even doing three abreast - two in one direction and the third in the other - however it was illegal and if you had a problem, it could invalidate your insurance on the grounds of dangerous driving.

The hard shoulder is an inconsistent place and occupied by other road users who have bikes/scooters or who are walking. Cars may be parked there and it's width can be determined by the camber of the road and any drains or other narrowings - not to be relied on unless you know the road very well and even then.

So what do you do if there isn't one? Some roads have laybys and passing places but other don't. I took my van up a crazy hill between Sant Cebria de Vallalta and Castell d'Indies, Maresme, Catalunya to go visit a friend who invited me to dinner. The road was narrow single carriageway in both directions and serviced a fairly extensive residential area built up the hill (back-of-beyond mountain to me) with views of the med set back from the sea - lovely (and busy).

My 2.5l nonturbo SOFIM pulling an unladen base LMC was literally down to walking pace in first going up the steeper gradients. I didn't think it would pop out of gear but I did wonder if it was able for the next climb which seemed to be round every corner. I couldn't get out of second gear for more than a few moments and struggled with the baulky second to first column change trying to maintain momentum. I was sweating in fear of a standing start due to an obstructed gearchange that didn't take place in time.

There were no places to pull in or pass and, seeing a queue of about 20 vehicles behind, I pulled into a relatively flat residential street to get my breath and calm down a bit.

I then had to reverse blind & uphill round a corner so as to get back on the road. I think I fully agree with the peace of mind bit because even a bit more torque would have been very, very, very nice in that instance thankyou!!!!

I had a lovely dinner with my friend and when I go back there to have another lovely dinner, I'm bringing my pushbike and will park the van in Sant Cebria!

After having a few alterations, namely replacing a heavy steel bed frames out of the van with an Aluminium one made by Wissel and swapping a double bench seat for a single swivel I took the van to a weighbridge near me and with me sat in and 3/4s tank of fuel and 40 litres of water it topped out at 2880kgs, that means a whopping 620kgs of additional payload not bad for a 3500kg max weight van Result 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

it’s going into Quantum on Monday to get remapped taking it up to 180BHP so it will be like a space shuttle, load and speed😁😁😁😁😁😁.

My first job will be to see if I can better the 45MPG I got loaded up going up to Shetland last year, it’s been serviced for the trip and with the remapping I am looking to start recouping the remapping cost.👍🏻👍🏻

There is something to be said for specifying the interior of your own van.
What sort of base vehicle is that to get 45mpg on 130BHP. The claim of jumping from 130BHP to 180BHP seems highly suspect to me!

I've looked into the remapping and although many people have said that it's worked out well (power, torque, MPG) there are some who've said that this has caused problems with other components (clutch, flywheel) wearing out prematurely. It seems that some components are unable to cope with the additional loads placed upon them. Has anyone with a Motorhome/Campervan found that ?

I have had mine mapped overb4 years ago now and it’s been a dream to drive, I have had or suspect any mechanical problems as a result.
Agreed a number of people have expressed concern that some components cannot deal with the extra torque or bhp, but that does not seem to have materialised into anyone who has actually had a remap done reporting failures.

Personally I am very happy, but at the end of the day it’s whatever the individual is comfortable with.

Right, it’s a 2018 Citreon Relay mwb high top and the 45MPG, was with me being very soft on peddle and tail gating a lorry so effectively being dragged along the motorway 🤩🤩🤩.

If you go on the Quantum website and key in your vehicle reg and it will tell you what can be achieved.
I have arrived back from the Quantum techie man. The process is that he downloads the current mapping software from my ECU, that is sent to Quantum and they do their magic and return the improved file which is then uploaded back to my ECU, process took around 45minutes. He confirmed the new file uprates to 180BHP for my van.

Driving immediate improvement manifested itself with smoother power through all gears, amazing acceleration through 3 to 6 gear and when I needed to overtake a wagon sat in middle lane doing 55 I just put my foot down gently ( not down to the floor) and I went from 60 to 80 very quickly in 6th gear, not realising how fast it was.
mixed journey home over 15 miles so not a long journey but showing 38.5mpg without any economy measures by me.
I am happy and I sure the investment will pay for itself over the next year or 2.

Just looked at my insurance doc. and it states that any mapping giving an increase in "power" of under 30% of the original does not need to be notified to them. On the Quantum website it states an increase in "power" for my vehicle of greater than 30%. I wonder if Quantum can do a mapping of say 30% or that it has to be the higher % ?

I'd have no reason to doubt the remappers but is there anyway to verify what they are claiming?
Apart from the driver feeling it "drives better"

Had to look to make sure it wasn't buttons posting about his VW again.
Even empty of all load I doubt 45mpg is anything but a dream
Buttons and 90mpg , that was a while back John

Not with my guy because he didn’t have a rolling road, but others do and they have confirmed the figures.
Would you know the difference? The point is that it works, performance, whether acceleration, torque or fuel saving is improved and it’s done within safe limits of the engine, torque increase on mine take it up to 400, safe limit 440 so not going to cause any issues. The other good think is that I have recently had an issue with a Nox sensor with he spotted showing as an intermittent fault and he stated that the improvements caused by remapping will solve that, fingers crossed.

A 50 bhp increase with just a remap? And a set map at that too. Not done whilst on a rolling road? I don’t think so. It probably will make an improvement on the standard map but I’d be highly suspicious of their quoted bhp figures.

Talk to them then, ask them for proof. 01895 323093.
I am am happy 😃

If you’re happy with the end result then that’s all that matters. (y)
All I’m saying is I’d be suspicious of the figures quoted.

I don’t have the kit or expertise to prove them wrong but hey ho😉
