Bearing in mind the rapid rising costs of motorhomes, I would say yes. The cost of a good service and a cambelt change far out ways the recent increase.

I have done I bought one last year and doubled my money on it when sellingI appreciate your a tight Scotsman Tam but even you couldn't find a a half decent wheelbarrow for 3k
Don't forget to have an hpi check and a log book loan check doneThank you all for the advice, I’m feeling a bit calmer now!
I did! And no regrets. In the end we agreed that I’d pay but the the cambelt would be changed before I picked it up so it cost me a bit more but I had piece of mind. Have had a couple of weekends away on campsites since then, and other motorhomers have been so great in helping us learn the ropes and giving good advice. Which I need ‘cos it’s a steep learning curve .
Got a 2008 auto trail apache on a ducato base 40k miles read some posts on here saying should change belt after 5 years and panicked as mine never had a new one rushed into my local mot garage and my mate turned round to me a stated these are commercial vehicles and the belts last much longer anyway had it done and he showed me old one hardly any wear on it so don't panic!!! What peed me off was slave and master cylinder went on clutch after 30k miles. We’re really keen to buy a 5 year old Hymer that’s up for sale through motorhome depot. It’s only done 3000 miles in the last 3 years and it hasn’t been serviced since the 2 year point. We’ve offered the asking price if it has a full service and cam belt change, the seller has said he’ll get an oil and filter change done but that’s our lot. I don’t know if we’re being over cautious or if the seller is hiding something. What would you do?
I am the owner of the said Hymer. I can assure you that I am hiding nothing. The van is in pristine condition. The reason for the low mileage is Covid and my husband’s worsening arthritis which necessitates him now needing an automatic. We don’t actually want to sell the van; it is without doubt the best van we have ever had. Looking for a replacement on the market recently what we have found is mainly poor quality. Also, the van has been driven regularly throughout the past three years. We have no intention of changing the Cam as the advice we have been given is that the mileage does not justify it. I suggest you contact your salesman ‘Mark’ and check your facts, you have been offered full service and MOT plus a habitation check paid for by me. I wish you luck finding a van in anywhere near this good a condition.
motorhome, sorry

Good about the cambelt, bad luck about the clutch ! I guess something is bound to go wrong at some stage, I’ll start saving now!!Got a 2008 auto trail apache on a ducato base 40k miles read some posts on here saying should change belt after 5 years and panicked as mine never had a new one rushed into my local mot garage and my mate turned round to me a stated these are commercial vehicles and the belts last much longer anyway had it done and he showed me old one hardly any wear on it so don't panic!!! If you check on a recent funster cam belt breaking it was more £13000Cam belt change £800-£1200. Knackered engine £3000-£5000 !!**!!
As others have said factor in the cost of a service and offer it for that amount less for it, also I wouldn’t be to bothered about it not having been inspected, however I believe Hymers are supposed to have a damp inspection every year or so, but if that’s not been done then there is no water ingress cover for it for not complying so you could arrange to have a mobile habitation inspection of YOUR choice carried out at the sellers location and if that checks out ok then go for it.
