Would anyone be open to renting their motor home for 6 months from September 2022?

don't own one yet
Hello motorhome owners! Myself and my partner and our 2 year old are looking to travel the UK during the colder seasons in a motor home, we work remotely so will be traveling and working as we go. We thought it would be a good idea to ask people who already have a motorhome and that may be sat around being stored. We would fully insure the vehicle, pay for any up-keep and garage check ups and pay a monthly rent to the owner. We are looking for a medium-large motorhome, with a double bed with mattress (preferred).

We are a very clean, considerate and respectful couple and have a gorgeous little 2 year old son who will be travelling with us.

We can provide positive references.

Does anyone know a site or the best place to reach people that would be interested in this, if it's not here?

Thank you so much.

I agree it is always worth asking and some comments have been less than helpful. For the record we always lend ours to our children but use it on and off throughout the year so can't help you. There are a lot of smaller companies on Facebook that I imagine would have availability out of season, so you may be able to haggle a decent price.

Buy another one and lend it out.
Everyone's a winner
Nah, I don't want the hassle of having 'customers'.
Besides, I'm retired so don't have the time and although not especially wealthy I don't need the money.

I got far more pleasure knowing that my son was having the adventure than from the pittance in interest that the invested capital was attracting (although I wasn't expecting to sell it at a profit).

Whilst, like the majority of Funsters, I think it is a little unlikely anyone will want to rent out their van for the winter season, there is certainly no harm in asking, as the above post (#35) demonstrates.

Buying a van and reselling it, is certainly an option worth giving serious consideration.

Alternatively, see if you can negotiate a decent deal with a commercial rental company. A firm local to us is The Motorhome Holiday Company - have a word with the boss, Matt, and see if he can offer an acceptable deal?

I'm with everyone else buy and sell on the Aussies di this when they travel in Europe selling at the end of your trip as adorable as your 2 year old maybe kids and dogs make renting interesting they are both high risk.
Completely understand your thoughts thank you

That would be amazing if you’d potentially be interested and we could have a further chat!

Why don’t you buy one and use it for 6 months then sell it on .
If you buy a good older type it will hold its price and save you a fortune.
Plenty on MHF classified section.
I personally wouldn’t lend ours to anyone friend or family.

Hi Steve,

It’s always the way unfortunately, we don’t all see eye to eye and that’s ok! Thank you so much for the helpful comment and info. I’ll look into it :)

We were once parked up in the Scottish Borders having lunch and a brand new Benimar parked up behind us.
We were sat outside and the two occupants of the Benimar got out and started eating their lunch... a flask of tea and supermarket sandwiches!

We started talking and it transpired they lived in Edinburgh, and they earned pocket money by being flown out to the continent, picking up new motorhomes from the factory and driving them back to Edinburgh for Motorhome Hire companies .
They explained that the company bought them new, hired them out for the season and then sold most on in Oct/Nov and then bought new stock again in the early Spring for the coming season.

So the moral behind the parable is that perhaps the OP, mbeckingham , would perhaps be better contacting the rental companies direct, rather than through the online rental portals to see if any deals could be arranged?

Good Luck
