Working at height on the motorhome

I use ladders around with some polystyrene pads, it is a pain but does the job. I personally wouldn't get on roof, A) management says not, B) knowing my luck I would damage roof.

Depends on the motorhome really. I get on our roof whenever I want to do anything, never had a problem, with the Clou I can actually get through the roof hatch above the bed.

I have now stopped any washing on the roof
the wife strip washing sat on the roof just stopped traffic as they went bye

I just go up
In the alps in winter you have to climb on the roof most days to shovel several inches of snow and ice off
Don't use crampons buggers up the roof

I used these ladders from Screwfix, less than £100, Adjusted the stops so that I can raise one extra rung and tie the side of the ladder to the wind out mechanism of the awning

Edit: it also fits in the garage
I use a very similar 3-way ladder, configured as a tall stepladder, to wash the roof of the van. Using a long handled soft brush, bucket and hose. I find it stable enough to work from although I never climb onto the roof itself.

As others have said - telescope ladder with pipe insulation to protect the sides and someone to foot the ladder.

I use a old mop as you can reach all the places and the roof comes up a treat.

I used mine like this with the extending bit one rung higher (tied to the wind out awning mechanism) and use that part as a hand grab when getting on or off the roof

Has anyone got a permanent solution to getting up high to the motorhome roof for washing etc?

I've used the forklift at work recently but still a bit of a faff. I'll be wanting up soon to give it a wash and polish, remove the sat dish and eventually add a solar panel or 2. Been looking for small platform scaffolding but nothing coming up for a decent price.

Found this on ebay but not entirely sure it's as robust as they say it is...

Storage is not really an issue as will be stored at work.

Anyone got anything for stable access to the roof?
Big stepladder and just walk on it. Job done.

I've done the whole ladder thing before but it's a pain in the arse trying to move around, up and down everything you need.

Like I say going to be taking the dish off and adding some panels so was looking for something a bit sturdy. Might take a punt on that ebay item as it's the closet I'll get to a small scaffolding section with out paying big bucks.
I fitted two solar panels and a satellite dish using an extending surveyors ladder with foam wrapped around the top. Once you get everything you need on the roof it’s very straightforward to do the work and very safe.

I use a Henchman Platform .... height adjustment for uneven ground - perfect and secure

What's wrong with Bamboo, the Chinese have been using it for 100's of years?

Cheap, strong and it won't go rusty!

Very early 90s I saw a few houses with bamboo scaffold in East Germany.
Many up to chimney pot height

Little update on this. There were 2 scaffold tower sets at the last monthly auction up here. I was in for both of them. One was real clean looking and I bowed out at about £120. The other was splattered and paint and didn't attract much bidding and I managed to get it for £55.

Beautiful day here today so thinking about finishing early, setting the scaffold up and getting the mh roof cleaned!

Still see it in India & Thailand, even on multistory blocks all tied together with string & the workers in work boots, we call them flip flops here.

Spent most of the last week giving the MH a good going over, especially the roof which I haven't done (apart from a wash) for over 18months. I managed to borrowed a tower scaffold to do the roof, didn't fancy relying on a ladder.

I got one of those platforms and ended up giving it away as it was very rocky

I have a Younger Mini-Max scaffold tower that I used to use for repairs on my double deckers.
Not cheap but solid as a rock with adjustable legs etc.

Yes looked at them and very pricey..I might try that system what attaches to ladders and has suction cups and a strap to stop you falling off. About 90 quid I think

Ditto.

The chap who did our Ceramic coating came with something like one of these

Amazon product ASIN B081SNN99Q
Great piece of kit - he was able to do the whole van without leaning the ladder against it - even to get on the roof.
