Woman power

My wife said she'd drive if it was a full automatic so that's what we got.

I get irritated by women who refuse to drive motorhomes. If they don’t “have the confidence” to drive a motorhome I suspect their driving skills are poor. Modern motorhomes are as easy to drive as the average car. The road rules are the same, so what is the problem? You simply have to appreciate that the vehicle is larger than a car and get used to it.
It is irresponsible of women not to drive the motorhome, especially when long distance driving is required. The driving should be shared. It’s only fair and it’s the safer option.
What would happen if there was an emergency or situation where the male driver was incapacitated? Does the little lady come over all pathetic and like a damsel in distress? Please tell me we have moved on from those days. Even the Queen drove trucks during the war.

Funster friends of our the wife won’t drive so they took her off the insurance as they thought if anything happened incapacitate him the insurance company wouldn’t collect van as she’d be fit to drive.
And that's the very reason our Rita is not on the insurance Gerry, nor named on the brakedown insurance for the MH. If they can identify A.N.Other who is qualified to drive that vehicle, they'll do their best to offload their responsibility. As far as the NFU and Britannia Rescue are concerned, (and are already aware) my spouse isn't qualified to drive the MH.

Is that not a wee bit OTT? You need to cut a bit of slack there. :(

With Rita, who is an excellent driver, it's a confidence thing re the MH.
If I took her to a large open space such as a disused airfield, she would be able to drive the MH, but without any town and country driving experience with large vehicles, she doesn't feel confident.
My old Brigade puts on an annual Ladies Driving Day for charity, where the ladies (for a donation) can drive a large Sprinter van, a Fire Appliance, a coach, or an articulated truck................................but on a disused airfield. The ladies love it, but none of them want to drive through town in any of the vehicles. :whatthe:

I remember my first solo trip behind the wheel of a 44 Tonne Artic, driving through a narrow road in Spalding, and that was butt clenching, so I do understand where Rita is coming from. She made it clear back in 2005, before we made the decision to buy, that she would never drive the 8 mtr Hymer, so I was under no illusion whatsoever.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Edited............ Jewellbags, I do appreciate my post doesn't help your situation. Sorry. ;)

My boss drives ours. In fact she had to do all the roadtests and first month of driving until I could get it downrated so I could drive it having lost my C1. The good thing about downrating is I now get a chance to pay more in road tax, gives me a warm feeling knowing I am helping the economy.

A photo of Val driving over the Simplon Pass, she does 99.9% of our driving. When we toured the Black Forest on our motorbike, she drove 2,500 miles and I drove about 18 !
Mind, she can't read a map to save herself, so I'm happy navigating. We got stuck in a motorway jam once and she decided to nip to the loo. I jumped into the driving seat and the traffic started moving just as she came out, so she took over the map reading. Within 20 minutes, we were in Birmingham city centre, when we were going to Worcester !
