"wish You Were Here..........

You got it Larrynwin ... (y)

I heard that they spent so much time there that they eventually sold the Yank RV and bought a villa...

Not sure how true that is...

I have not heard from Susie in years....

Wow those photos brought back some memories!!!
I think it was 2011 as that was our Knaus. The following year we changed it for a WildAx and a caravan.
It was the first year we had a band at Camping Pinar San José.
Yes old-mo we’re still around.
We don’t have a Motorhome any more. We gave up travelling in 2018. We live in Cornwall now near to Par. We don’t often travel outside the St Austell Bay area. No need to! It’s so beautiful and we have Fowey, Charlestown, Mevagissey and The Eden Project on our doorstep.
Rex is still banging his drums. He doesn’t play his big drum kit these days - sticks to his Cajón. He’s playing with 2 Ukelele bands, a blues band and a Morris dance team.
I dance with the Morris dancers.
We have a wonderful life down here and have made lots of friends..
We have lovely memories of our time travelling and all the wonderful people we met. We still see quite a few when they come down here. It helps living in a tourist destination 🤣.
So, if any of our old Motorhome Fun mates are coming down here give us a shout and we can meet up for a coffee … at least 😉.

Hey...... PenelopePitstop Just noticed you are still around...:hugs::*
Missed you.... what have you been up to... Is hubby still thrashing the drums...?

I do miss our get togethers at Zahora... :crying1:

Don`t be a stranger.... :drinks:

Except if you need to make an emergency call during a prolonged power cut when even mobile phone masts have run out of juice.

A landline and non-digital phone becomes your last resort to call for help. It's a no-brainer for the extremely vulnerable. Unless you have a satphone as backup.

BT have now changed our landline connection from analogue to digital through the internet. Has caused us various problems but we were given no choice. Mobile signal is almost non-existent here.

Rats subsequently chewed through some of our electric power lines so we lost the phone line for a while.

The problem will be that the traditional landline which gets its power over the phone line will be a thing of the past in a year or so. BT (or Openreach) are closing that service down & all phone service, even if the continuation of an existing landline service, will move to a digital VoIP service that will operate through your broadband system - installed by Openreach if you don't already have broadband. It will still come in to the house over the existing wires, but it will require your 'on premise' equipment to be connected to a power supply. I've seen it suggested that Openreach equipment supplied in such circumstances will have battery backup, but whether that it true or not, I don't know.

The old system does have battery backup, but the batteries are in the exchange. All that is going.

Those of us who do any amount of off-grid motorhoming will just decamp to the van in the event of a power cut.

Bally nuisance it is as well! 😡

PenelopePitstop Marie and Rex 😉 I was going to say your far too busy being married to a rock star. :Eeek::rofl:
I do see your active life style on Janie's Facebook, 😜 ' If you want Facebook get you own so I only 👀 ' 😁 I can't believe the last hang over social evening together was April 2014, we have friends in St Austell but they are not very good at the moment, but if we get down there your on our list 😉 along with Garry Just smiffy . :wine: :wine:

What a lovely thought. Well done Mo.

At the risk of a bit of thread drift.....
BT is throwing vulnerable old people under the bus to save a few quid on maintenance costs. A disgrace.
.... to save a few many millions on maintenance cost, I would think.

As might be expected, BT/Openreach have made a mess up in the way they have been implementing this project. The problems with areas of limited broadband and/or mobile signal have been around for years & BT have been spiking competitors efforts to solve the issue. They were slow to acknowledge the need for a system that wouldn't die the minute the power went down. They failed to recognise that for some customers, even a change to an equally good solution was still a change that those customers would find difficult to cope with.

To be fair, until the storms of the last couple of years, I think most people had got pretty blasé about power cuts. 40 years ago, you expected winter power cuts as a matter of course, but I don't think we have been without power for more than an hour in this house over the last 20 years. We've been without water for longer than we have been without power.
