OK......... Let`s give it a go.... can only succeed or fail... :giggler:

Aimed at those members who have had to give up the M-homing life.. But anyone can join in... (y)

If you know of any members that have stopped M-homing and they used to be a member or perhaps payed to become a life member give them a nod/shout..

They don`t have to be alone twiddling their fingers, Let us know what you are up to, hobbies what you are doing to pass the time.. May be of interest to some..

If you are still in touch, mention this thread... and to alert any member put an "@" in front of their user name ie Larrynwin as an example and they will get a notification..

It can be a lonely life away from "Motorhomefun".. and all your old friends... :crying1:

Give it a try..... Talk about anything, ask questions, Tell us what you do to occupy yourselves, what hobby have you taken up.. When is the best time to plant tomato`s.... Where are the best places to fish for disabled.... I could go on and on..

Over to you...... (y):hugs:
................................................................................................................................................................................................................

I will start ........... Bit of a rant...... Just had an e-mail from Talk--Talk..... Our monthly has gone up from £37 to just over £50 a month.... 2 outgoing calls this month and 3 incoming... but do use the internet a lot..
Time to move to another supplier.... I think... ... :groan:
..............................................................................................................................................................................

Remember if you are still in touch with ex Motorhomers give them a shout... Would be good to hear what they are up to... :hugs:

Hi Mo,
Nice to see you are on, great idea for this thread , I will set up a thread monitor / notification so that I can read all your memories etc and others from ex motorhomers , we are still plodding on albeit summer or fine weather camping , At 76 & 75 with various health issues , not sure how many more years left getting out and about , I still want another trip or 2 over to France but other half worried about our health probs but will wait and see. Nice to have you back for a natter mate .

We are way too young to qualify  and still have the motorhome.. Indeed away in Cornwall at present, but still think this is a great idea. Many of the original Funsters are still active, but many others who were very active have fallen away. scotjimland comes to mind as a major contributor.

Good idea Mo!

I often wonder what ex motorhomers are doing now, it would be nice to know. (y)

I hope your idea of this thread is successful. If it fizzles out there is always the (mis-named, now) Morning Funsters thread. It's an all day and night thread about everything and nothing 😉🤣

We sold our lovely Rapido a couple of months ago as we were just not using it enough. Spending a fair amount of time helping with grandkids and other stuff. Pointless spending upwards of a grand a year just to keep it on the drive

We are going to take short breaks using cottages from time to time, some good last minute deals. Might buy again in 3 or 4 years.

I often wonder what has happened to some of the old names that used to appear regularly. I guess peoples habits change, and when you’ve read so many toilet threads, parking complaints, etc it sometimes gets a bit dull.

Personally,I like to come on here most mornings for the Quiz.

It's a great idea but it already happens a lot. I know loads of members who post every day who don't now own a van. They're still Funsters (y)

Just thought I would give it a try, Jim...

Nothing ventured and it is aimed at those who no longer M-home...

Gives them a dedicated thread to chat with old friends without getting to involved..

And make them feel they are still missed and wanted..

And hopefully bring a bit of a smile to their faces.... (They could always read my jokes, when I post them.. :groan: ..)

old-mo - just ditch talktalk. My phone and broadband remains £34.98 pcm. FYI talktalk will still want £5 pcm for your email account even after you switch.

Mo, if you don't really need a landline consider switching to using a sim for your internet, loads of good deals out there, you can use most phone sims in a MIFI so not just limited to data sims.

Now I'm an imposter on here but a tip for anyone moving from bt but still want to keep your email, when my daughter lived at home she used to have her own email on my account then she moved out and had her own bt account so I closed mine and transferred my email to her account, it works perfectly and costs neither of us anything.

Thanks for that............ How come Talk-Talk will still want £5 a month ???

What`s that for, and if I cancel the DD they wont get it..

No it's only if you want to keep your old email address.

I had a Tiscali email account for years which morphed into TalkTalk and had the same request for that fiver to keep it open which I ignored, but I still get emails into it. I'm not sure mails will send if I try but I now use it for the odd log in for sites that I can ignore if and when I wish to.

My understanding is, if you don't pay the fiver, that you will still receive emails on your Talk Talk account but won't be able to respond. I never found this a problem, I just reply to the ones I need to, using my new email, and ignore the others.

As some of you may know, we loved our MH and were regulars at Fun rallies and the winter sojourn in Morocco. gwen did all the driving because I am partially sighted but we had to pack it in when Gwen’s arthritis made it impossible to drive long distances.
we now constantly look for holiday deals and in the past year have been in a cruise, to Tenerife, Majorca, rented a boat on the Canal du Midi and most recently an all:inclusive in Turkey.
I still sing and play guitar in a band (The B-Bopalulas) round the pubs and clubs of the North East sometimes getting as far as Newark for a Fun rally!
we constantly miss the motorhome and would still be touring if our health was better but life is still good!

Except if you need to make an emergency call during a prolonged power cut when even mobile phone masts have run out of juice.

A landline and non-digital phone becomes your last resort to call for help. It's a no-brainer for the extremely vulnerable. Unless you have a satphone as backup.

I understand that but it is a very rare occurrence, even with the 'scaremongering' we've got going on at the moment ... as with all things it's up to individuals to decide but there's no reason the landline couldn't be maintained on it's own with no internet which would be a hell of a lot cheaper than £50 a month even including the cost of internet provided via a sim.

Great idea old-mo (y) As volunteers we organise social group breaks in hotels (as well as the odd Fun Meet :giggle:) so in the future if there is the demand we could help arrange get togethers for those who no longer motorhome or just want to come along & meet up with old friends.

Thanks. Chas...... Sorted...... I think...

We had a look at U-switch and they came up with !!!!! (Forgot who it is..) Half the price of Talk-Talk.. £25-12.

Anyway Judy has sorted out another supplier.. As far as I can make out unlimited wi-fi (Internet)
And limited landline calls... but we do keep our own landline number..

Just as a by....... and to those who mentioned it... my Email address is the same as has always been with
********** @outlook.com...... surely I can keep that with the new provider ???

Cant I ???

Hey...... PenelopePitstop Just noticed you are still around...:hugs::*

Missed you.... what have you been up to... Is hubby still thrashing the drums...?

I do miss our get togethers at Zahora... :crying1:

Don`t be a stranger.... :drinks:

Thanks again Andacami... (y):hugs:

The problem will be that the traditional landline which gets its power over the phone line will be a thing of the past in a year or so. BT (or Openreach) are closing that service down & all phone service, even if the continuation of an existing landline service, will move to a digital VoIP service that will operate through your broadband system - installed by Openreach if you don't already have broadband. It will still come in to the house over the existing wires, but it will require your 'on premise' equipment to be connected to a power supply. I've seen it suggested that Openreach equipment supplied in such circumstances will have battery backup, but whether that it true or not, I don't know.

The old system does have battery backup, but the batteries are in the exchange. All that is going.

Those of us who do any amount of off-grid motorhoming will just decamp to the van in the event of a power cut.

Yes Mo, outlook is the email provided by Microsoft and you can continue to use it whatever else you may use for broadband/phone etc. I have Gmail, Sky and Hotmail as well as the TalkTalk account mentioned, and an old aol address too.

Surely for an 'ancient boiler' like a tea urn is more appropriate - this one is probably about the right age and worth a pretty penny ... just like you 'cause you is priceless! :giggle: :*

BT is throwing vulnerable old people under the bus to save a few quid on maintenance costs. A disgrace.
