Winter sun blindness

Here’s the blurb from Bolle to help , use similar on my Oakley Ski goggles but would look daft driving around wearing them 😲
Would buy from Bolle direct though as they are £115 , not £12 ……

+ WHAT IS PHANTOM?

Phantom is Bollé’s first photochromic lens with phenomenal optical clarity. It adapts to any light condition, ensuring precise visual acuity whatever the weather. The lens tint changes with the light from cat.1 to cat.3.

You can buy safety glasses that are supposed to cope with big light changes.
So you might be working in a shaded area then come into bright sunlight.

They don’t change colour or anything just cope with light variations.

I use them mountain biking as we ride a lot of wooded areas, seem to work for me.

Bolle is the make, get mine on the bay of thieves at about £12.
I think the clue is the word supposed! If you don't wear any glasses hasn't evolution given you eyes that cope with going from light to shade to prevent being dinner for a different animal!

Photochromic lenses do vary in darkness but generally darken very quickly but are slow to lighten as there's energy in the light making them darken wheras lightening is a passive process. They also don't darken as well behind a windscreen and don't darken as much when it's hot as when it's cold.
Here's an example

The initial drop from about 90% transmission to about 20% takes maybe 5 seconds from fully dark to fully light a few minutes. It wouldn't feel that long because your eyes will adapt to an extent for the reduced transmission. Other makes have different characteristics but behave in a similar way.

Only downside is dials are more difficult to read.
I wouldn't worry about it as when I wear my prescription sunglasses , darkest possible at LT3, even daytime i cannot see the dials at all on the dash let alone read them.the sat nav is ok for general direction but when it becomes technical & exiting lanes which are multiple I have to either lift the sunglasses or peer over the top:xlaugh:

I fitted a heads up speedo can adjust the brightness to see it when really sunny even with sunglasses on . 😎

I often use my sat nav for speeds, I can read the dials with my prescription sun glasses which are useless for nighttime glare. Haven't seen any difference in difficulty in seeing folk in dark clothes, or lightless bikes, and plenty of those round here.

May I please enquire which one?👍👍
This one , easy to fit , remove fuse box cover below steering wheel , plug into OBD port route cable up via right hand side of dash . Comes with all the instructions and a short video on the link.

I’m tight and the ones I buy are about £12 😊

They say they have some kind of coating on them 🤷‍♂️

I’ve no idea 🤷‍♂️

I wear safety glasses, not prescription, as my eyes run with the speed I travel on the bike 🤔😊

Just bought a new Autotrail GF80 A class and it has the electric drop down screen at the front which doubles up as a visor, however it comes down at a snails pace!! So now wear a baseball cap which does the trick.

Grow taller, said the short @rse from Surrey.
Mike.

Check these out on Amazon. All different kinds available.
I ended taking the idea and making my own out of some cardboard, from an old Amazon box!

I'd want one that doesn't use the obd as it is locked off.

can they be used either side or are they handed?

Had to stop 3 times yesterday on a country road near us, the sun was so low and I couldn’t see a thing, it’s really dangerous.

Any tips, how do you go on with this?
Drive st night lol

You need to install a LiDAR system

Pretty sure the display flips on the unit so it can be used on RHD or LHD vehicles. More so as it can display KPH as well as MPH😉. It is OBD operated but only a couple of pins connected so could potentially be wired in before OBD but messing about with CanBus etc is risky unless you know what you are doing .

Never heard of it.
Toyota used it and it beat the Tesla in day and night vision tests. From memory they had a child dummy on a skate board they pulled from in front of a parked car , the Toyota spotted the child and the car stopped Tesla uses a different technology using cameras and the child dummy was run over.

No sunvisors on our Carthago. The front shutter is used as a sun blind but is limited to how far it will drop. At 5’ tall it’s no good for me. I am thinking of buying one of these, I haven’t fathomed yet how to attach it as we have a drop down bed.

This is where I love the electric front blind on the euramobil... I just lower it till it blocks out the sun.

Does it not have an automatic stop on it which limits the drop. As soon as the ignition is turned on ours goes up to leave approx 14” of sun blind which is too high for me.

Can’t be helped the sun goes where the sun goes!
You could turn round and go in the opposite direction!😀
