hi everyone

hope your all having a nice weekend

Ok here’s my question, i’ve a tag axel Fiat based motorhome do FWD.

If i wanted to fit cross climate tyres do I just need them on the front driving wheels or has all 6 tyres got to be changed.

Also if fitted on the front do I then need to have snow socks and/or chains onboard to cross into Spain from France.

cheers everyone

Al 👍

All 6.

You will increase drive and braking on then front if you change those but your backend will be all over the place if on summer tyres…. Also legally in countries where you need all season or winters then you always change all the tyres.

All 6 and preferably the spare, just in case👍
Ps don’t forget cross climates are directional!👍

You must do all six wheels, lots of online info as to exactly where you need them, in each country it’s regional so worth a bit of time researching.

Fiat OEM is (was in 2020) Continental Vanco 4Season. I've just ordered 2x 225/75/16 for the front of ours to replace like for like (as on 4mm and they lose M&S rating at 4mm and we expect to be in snow...) £206ea fitted (being fitted on Wednesday) - using BlackCircles (15% off black friday code). RAC tyres almost the same price.

Chains I ordered these: https://amzn.to/4ggyiK1 £70 for 16mm chains - and they fit fine and look substantial.

Does directional mean that you’d need to carry 2 spares - one for nearside and one for offside?
Genuine question. Often wondered. 👍

Theoretically yes

Practically prob not, just a winter tyre with tread that goes both ways would do (I forgot the proper word)🤷🏼‍♂️

According to my tyre fitter you can use a directional one the wrong way around for a short journey until you get the punctured one repaired. That’s what I’m doing anyway just treat it as you would a spacesaver tyre.

I’m just hoping it’s not a scam but he has feedback, i’ve paid with paypal and they are covered by the Ebay money back guarantee so hopefully i’m covered if things go t!ts up

Forgot to mention that I asked the tyre fitter to suggest which way for the spare wheel tyre and he said near side due to there being more potholes.

Just keep in mind that as the original question was about a Europe trip that in “that there Europe” tyre fitters will only install an identical tyre and off course no way i could see one of them fitting one deliberately in the wrong direction, that would do them out of selling you a new one🤔

We have the Michelin cross climate, good ride compared to the camping ones, covered over 20,000 miles still plenty of life. Just carry one spare as in EU for 90 days had the drivers side (rhd) direction on the spare as not exact science but more chance of a kerbside puncture

The advert says all 2024 Gary

am I being thick here, directional tyres, does that mean I should be checking to see if they are 3 left and 3 right

My brains boggled atm 😱🤣

Not with you, we are talking spare wheels with a tyre the same as all the rest but getting a puncture on the side which does not match the spare wheel direction, but using the spare wheel in a non directional way for a few miles until the punctured wheel is repaired. If it happened to be on the correct side then it could be left on.

can anyone beat £120 per tyre delivered
Don't want to be alarmist but there are a lot of fakes around. That price sounds sort of semi-reasonable but safety is paramount. I hope they are ok. Look out for spelling mistakes on the tyres etc.
