Autoglass seems to suggest that claiming for a windscreen repair against your insurance will not affect your No Claims Bonus. But a Google search suggests that it depends on the insurance company. Does anyone have any experience of this?

We have had two glass claims in the past year. Both no fault, caused by flying stones. We had to replace the screen on my wife's Focus and a side window on my car. Admittedly, we are with French insurance companies, but there was no loss of bonus in either case.

The last time my windscreen needed replacing I just used a local company who charged me £165, I would have paid the excess of £100 if I had claimed off the insurance and this way I don’t have to declare it which you have to even if you are insuring a different vehicle.

I was lucky earlier this year to have 2 windscreens smashed and also needed a chip repaired, and yes I had to pay £100 excess on the 2 new ones no charge for the chip repair and yes no claims saved and on renewal 8 was advised by my new insurer that they are not bothered about the window claims.

Quite a lot of sleight of hand in the industry I find. Protect your no claims and then something happens which isn't your fault. Then they put the premium up at renewal. Challenge them and they say your no claims of course remains intact, but unfortunately you're the sort of person to whom this sort of thing happens so they have to adjust for the risk etc.
